    Default Modbo 4.0 in 79002

    Hi Guys,

Im fitting a modbo 4.0 into a 79002 (GH-061-12 board) ps2 and although I have gone back over the wiring a million times checking for shorts to pins I cant get the unit to playback anything except for dvd movies. Original ps2 and backups fail. The originals come up with the not valid game disk error and the backups go to a black screen like they are loading and just stay there. Im leaning towards a dud chip but as im new the modbo 4 i thought id ask you guys your opinions first.

    cheers

Doh, Disregard. Sometimes one just needs to walk away for a moment and come back and look again to realise they have made a silly mistake. All fixed.

I mixed up two wires (V and R). No matter how many times i looked before i couldnt see it. After walking away for 5 minutes and coming back to it, it stood out like mad. LOL

    Question modding tips?

    Hi cwispy,

I also have a ver.79002 (GH-061-12 board) that I am attempting to mod. Do you have any tips on modding this particular console? I do have some experience modding systems as I have modded an earlier version ps2 and psx system. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.....Thanks in advance.

Mate just take your time and be super careful and if your like me, maybe you should be drunk at the time of installation.

Actually they are much like all the other ps2's, just a bit smaller in places. Only tip I would probably have is make sure you have some really (and I do mean really) good rework flux handy, it makes a huge difference.

i noticed on the instructions - it has 2ground points ...
should i use both - or is one an alt?

From memory one is an alt point. I would have to look at the install pic again to refresh my memory.

Yep you can choose which one you want to use. I normally use the one the ground near the power (gnd1)

either but both isn't going to hurt either. And I am not aware of any alt points, you really do have to put wires on the pins of the DVD controller. Tricky the first few times but once you get the hang of it...so long as you have steady hands that is...

to solder to the dvd controller - do u guys tin the wire, flux the controller legs the solder? (if that makes sense)...

Yup. Use a bit of flux on the wire and tin it, then do the same to the chip and then apply a bit more flux again and solder the wire to the leg. It should take a lot easier and give a good connection.

I use a 3 dioptre magnifying lamp myself. Used to do them without it, but it makes like so much easier and your able to do a much better job. Some people like the magnifying headsets that you wear, but im not a big fan of them myself.

    Ta - i ended up using a modbo 4...

all points seem good (obv not tho), as i get no pic, and no spin up (laser moves up and down)...

any ideas where i should concentrate my efforts...

i connected all the points available on the chip (ie - tehre was no F point on the modbo 4)...

i have checked all points with a multimeter except BGIH...

can either of those cause the above symptoms?
