    Default C-Band chat

Obviously since I have just put up a 2.4m mesh C Band dish I'm interested a bit more about what's out there and just chat in general.
To get things started I haven't a motorised setup and managed to get pointed to Pas 8 and recieve BBC World Asia for my first c band pics. I had more of a play tonight and with a few pointers from a fellow member managed to get NASA TV after repointing to i701.
I remember prior to the forum crash there were a lot of posts about what's on C Band. So what's everyone watching?

Haven't found any single channel yet, that is worth watching regularly, so I just surf and watch a bit of everything, specially the beautiful young indian singers/dancers.
It would be a different story, if the Asian pay TV channels could be subscribed from Australia.

Default What I've watched today on C band.

Aljazeera, DD Sports NHK , CCTV and the many Indian News channels on Pas10

FTV HD and Russia Today on Thaicom 5.
Hey smurff some Asian pay tv can be viewed in Aus. Thaicom 5 KU reaches Perth I've heard on a 3 metre dish.
Plus some of the A-Skynet package on TELSTAR 18 (p-o-r-n) viaccess card in a suitable reciever.

VOA TV (Comprises US Embassy TV, State Dept) - has news feeds, White House, etc. You load in two VOA's, and one additional, the large remainder that load are radio. Do need to add VPids someday to better determine.

DWTV, NOW TV, Indian and Pakistan TV News channels etc plus the usual suspects carried on Optus D2 Ku such as Russia Today, Press TV. Fashion TV. NHK World -IS8. UP4 AS2's feed channel, sometimes the APTN feed is unencrypted.

Palapa C2 the Indonesian stuff, METRO TV, SCTV, Global TV, RCTI, Bali TV -a couple of these have english movies and news (Metro and Global). Good for unedited coverage of terror attacks. When running crypt on Global or RCTI, BISS is used.

Add in the CCTV'S on Chinasat where CCTV9 is the english channel, CCTV 7 is mostly defence which also jumps to CCTV10. CCTV Music - classical. TX quality whilst SD, is not so compressed as elsewhere.

AS2 has Cuban TV, South American TV, Russian language GovCo channel, arabic stuff including the Arabic language AlJazeera. Portugese, Italian French etc. See also Luxe TV which is both TX'ed as SD (DVB-S), and HD MPEG4 (DVB-S2) - quality as good as Foxtels technically top specced HD service (not a joke).

HD stuff on Palapa etc. Check lyngsat.

I tend to load stuff on the decoder by satellite, starting, for me; with AS2, then AS3, Palapa C2 etc.

Id say AsiaSat 2 and AsiaSat 3S along with Telstar 10 have a fair bit of good Free to Air content.

While we are having fun Leroy thought id post this pic of an old install i did for a customer to give you some more possibilities to think about.

Take note of the KU lnb sitting next to the c band feed horn.

A piece of bent aluminium bracket and a hose clamp to hold the lnb in place.

A 22khz tone switch, switches between lnb's, the dish position is slightly to one side when using the ku lnb.

Nice and easy, all cband sats with no signal loss and ku when needed.

Sorry for the poor quality pic if you want to see more let me know and ill try to find a closer pic, their buried somewhere in my garage.

thanks for that mate. From what I can gather Ku on a C band mesh doesn't seem to be much chop. Mind you I was reading, and I can't remember if it was here or Vetrun, of a dual c/ku lnb and the ku you could rotate and adjust the skew in the housing! That sounded cool.

Yes you can get a dual band with motorized skew, but i believe signal loss becomes an issue.

The box that the dish came in should state its cband and ku gain.

This was a good setup for the main birds we all like, d2 to pas2 no problems.

    Mate,
Get a blind scan STB and go to town. It's great finding stuff, it'll load up almost everything comming down off every sat you want to point at.
Blind scanners, like my Fortec star eliminate the need to input any Trannie settings.
My STB is getting old but it only takes a couple of minutes to scan the whole Sat. Probably the best piece of kit I ever bought.
