Default Xbox 360 price crash - help needed

    Hi guys.

I want to buy an Xbox 360 now that the price has dropped and was hoping someone might be able to help out a newbie?

I need to know if I buy the 60gb pro pack bundle what I need to look out for; Can I still upgrade the firmware? What DVD drive do I need to avoid? They said I could check what DVD drive it had before I bought it.

Is there anything else I need to know? Has anyone seen any better deals?

The deal i was emailed is $399 from GAME with Kung Fu Panda, Lego Indiana Jones and Fable 2 or Gears of war 2. Eb said they would match it but not beat it.

    Thanks.

avoid the lite-on drives, drive trey looks the same as benq but you can tell by looking through a hole under the faceplace where the drive is.
    white wires = benq
    yellow wires = liteon

most new packs have lite-on drives so good luck.

    Thanks mate.

I just found out that the deal is only for today. I rang JB to see if they would match it as they are closer to me. After being on hold for 5 minutes while the staff member spoke to the manager they were magically out of stock of all their XBOX 360's.

I ended up getting the 60gb pro pack from EB and got them to match the GAME deal. I also got them to sell me a wireless black controller for $50. GAME refused to match that deal.

I got Indiana Jones Lego and Kung Fu Panda and kept both as they would only offer me $7 store credit each. I traded Gears of War 2 straight back to them for $87 store credit and used that store credit to buy the extra controller. in the end I paid $399 and still have a $37 gift card.

They let me check which drive was in the machine but I couldn't find any coloured wires under the faceplate. I got them to power up the machine for me so that I could look at the shape of the drive tray. I assume I either got a Benq or Liteon.

Can someone please teach me how to find where the coloured wires are? I can still take it back if it is a Liteon and look through the other machines.

The staff member I dealt with at EB was very helpful and a true professional.

Look at the manufacture date...its probably around September so its almost certain to be a Lite-ON!

    ^^^
Thanks for the help. The 360 is so confusing for a newbie, I thought the messiah chip was confusing enough back in the day.

The manufacture date was only 2 months ago. I have already bought another machine.

who cares if it's liteon, they are just as easy to crack. all you
need is xtractor360, a spare drive pref a benq off ebay for $50.00
and use dvdkey32, only takes 30 mins from the time you start
    pulling the box down.

answer to your question is NO and NO. all you need is a db9 serial cable,
and the soldering is not difficult, however there is a new method out now
which completely eliminates soldering altogether. If you use the spear360
with the xtractor360 no soldering is required, I know coz I got one.

Here is the link to the products and all the files you need to do it

I'd rather solder 2 easy points than having to hold a probe...suppose its ok for people that cannot solder, but just an extra cost really.
