can i connect this to a wireless access point, and how much of a improvement would i see in signal strength, just say if i mounted it on my roof.

that all depends on your access point and what you want to do with it. they are generally used to serve a Local hotspot or similar. they have a N-Type connector on the base and can there fore be connected to coax and eventually to any 2.4 GHz appliance including wireless video senders.
Your access point would need to have a detachable antenna and you would need to obtain a "pigtail" to suit your acces point.

i got about 350m or so from a 30mw AP on my 20' pole with a superpass omni to my laptop using an enterasys pcmcia card.
i just went for a walk down the street seeing how far i could go before the internet dropped out.

dont want to hack your thread, but it seems like Outdoor Omni Directional antenna, which is bit different from indoor one.
in my opinion if you describe it in your thread title as Outdoor Omni antenna for Wireless, it will help you more (just an advise).
