    More info needed, georgee.

Where are you located? (I'm assuming Sydney somewhere)

    What antenna are you using?

    How is it mounted?

    Make/model of amplifier?

Which transmitters are you receiving from, the main north shore, or translators at Manly or Kings Cross?

Do you have multiple outlets? (if so, how many and how are they split)

Type of coax and connectors used?

    The more info, the better.

It is possible there is a problem with the amp, but I'd be checking all other possibilities as well.

If the antenna is old, then it may have a corrosion/rust problem at the balun (where the coax connects).

Without specific details of the antennas and amp in use, I can only assume the amp also has an integrated VHF/UHF diplexer and your VHF antenna is pointed towards the north shore main transmitters and the UHF is pointed to Knights Hill (Illawarra). This will explain why you don't receive D44 (UHF Ch35), as it is not transmitted from Illawarra.

Do you have a remote power supply for the amplifier plugged into one of the outlets?

What you really need to do, is have your signals measured, with a digital field strength meter/spectrum analyser, to determine exactly what signal strength and more importantly, signal 'quality' (BER - Bit Error Ratio) you have.

If the antenna is old, it may require replacement.

The amplifier may also be adding noise, or the levels may be set too high for the digital signals, causing overload to your tuner.

Once again, without accurate signal measurements, it's impossible to tell.

Check your flylead (from the wall outlet to the TV) The cheap molded-plug types are poor performers with digital signals.

If you replace the antenna, ensure you only use a band 3 antenna, for Sydney (which is for VHF channels 6-12).

Do not use an antenna designed to receive analogue channels below channel 6 (eg: ABC Ch 2) as those antennas are prone to picking up impulse noise interference, which can cause loss of digital reception.

If you bypass the amp, you will then need to add a diplexer to combine your VHF and UHF (Illawara) antennas onto the single coax.

    Use F connectors.

    Leroy
    Especially mentioning TVSN & expo.

The OP did however say they have as antenna pointed at the main north shore TX (Willoughby/Artarmon/Gore Hill) and a UHF antenna for SC10/Prime/Win, which would be pointed to Knights Hill... these are all terrestrial services.

A typical band 3 yagi antenna will have elements around 80cm long.

Band 3 antennas are for Australian VHF channels 6-12.

hows about posting a pic of this antenna/MHA your trying to get working?
it would then give MTV and Leroypatrol a better idea of what you need to get your reception fixed.
If I can post pics, anyone can

    An excellent suggestion, Gordon.

I often get people to send me pics of antennas, terrain etc for installations/reception problems that are some distance away... as it gives me a better understanding of what the problem may be and what may be required to fix it, before I get there.
