    Thanks for posting viewer,

Freeview seems to be basically what we have now,

with one more channel on each Commercial Network, different to the main Network feed,

I hope they do make more multi-channel programing, & are allowed to be creative enough to give Pay TV a run for their money,

Digital TV since 2001 has been a bit disappointing content wise,

We will have to wait & see,

    my 2c

P.S. & I sincerely hope freeview will be broadcast by Pay TV (or on Satellite)

Freeview is a name taken from the UK and being used to 'relaunch' all our FTA channels. I'd say a marketing ploy to get everyone to race out and buy a new digital set top box as there is a large proportion of people out there happily watching their old anadog TV.

It looks a bit over rated with the exception of channel 10's new channel.

That will hopefully be the one good channel out of this 'digital' revolution!

I was a bit concerned that this was another 'FREE' offer like a mobile phone promo like Austar runs.
They will take 10% off my Austar bill for a $49 a month 'FREEEEE' GSM phone that doesnt work here so I would save a whole $1.20 on the Austar but now I am $47.80 worse off financially, some deal !!!!
I must say I am surprised to see the regional areas listed but the proof will be in the pudding when they actually put something on.
I have 5 Prime channels so are they going to give 2 away ?

Probably, hopefully, we might be able to glimpse some original NZ TV channels to be shown here in Australia as oppose to Satellite D1 tranmission that originally doesn't beamin' to Australia.

Ku-Band tranmission is wearing the six main solid rings.

Sorry but this is probably a really dumb question but is this Freeview system only going to be accessible in the metro area or will it somehow cover rural and remote areas too (I think I'm probably living in dreamworld here). We currently get ABC, SBS & Southern Cross channels but not the real 7, 9 & 10.

    regards

pam - go to the website, click on Freeview channels, click on regional, click on your region, this will tell you what's in store for you.

Gee can't wait LOL This is what we have now in Tassie, the only HD channels that broadcast all the time are ABC SBS and TDT, southern cross andd win hd are basically a waste of time as they usually only broadcast the occassional movie or crap Australian soapie that you would need a labotamy to enjoy. It's all a waste of money to try and con mrs and mrs average into ditching there perfectly good analogue tele so they can switch off the analogue transmission. I reckopn the same morons mange this as do pay tv. It's simple the reason people are procrastinating over digital is because why bother spending your hard earned to watch the same crap in SD. C'mon guys its about content not bullshit

    End of rant

Fred, how dare you suggest content should be considered when choosing television programms.
Unless its wall to wall sport 24 hours a day, Infomercials or American sitcoms it has no place on Australian Television Channels.
Look at Teletext and what a shadow it has become of what was origonaly proposed. Can you understand the other channels refusing to allow the listing of their programs on Teletext and why channel 9 fought tooth and nail to stop that listing company from telling subscribers what was on ch 9?
No Fred, I am afraid 'Content' is a dirty word for Australian FTA or PayTv for that matter.

From memory.. last time i went to the "freeview" site & did some looking & reading to see if it actualy gave any information at all..
Its nothing more than the TV advert running on a website..

same rubbish with no real info on what or when...

The only channel mentioned with anything close to a time line is 10's "ONE" channel, dedicated sports & starts somewhere in the 2nd quarter of '09.. so that gives them a 3 month window to get something out there..

Yes all the big add etc just before xmas to get everyone to buy STB's for xmas presents.. only for the prospective owners to hide them in the draws for the next 3-6 months till there is some chance of being able to watch anything different to the standard programmed crapp on all the current channels. the difference between current SD & HD channels.. little or none..
When the finally put something on the HD channels thats WORTH watching, dont they realise its then that people with buy a HD STB to watch the different content.

Why buy something atm thats not giving any return !!!!

My thoughts exactly *fergs*, I bought a HD set top about 18 months ago, every now and again there is different programming on the HD channels usually 10 with Nascar or NFL, 10 did a HD movie every now and again, and occasionally a HD ep of CSI or some such. But they seem to have stopped that.

Ch 9 did the outer courts of the australian open tennis last year, alongside of the center court matches. I'm sure they will again this year.

    Ch 7 is useless.

ABC 2 (non HD I'm sure) has really good concerts sometimes, (New Order and Elvis Costello spring to mind)

But what we are really after is fresh programming on the HD chans.

Seen ads for it here, but at least you have digital. I was really enjoying the magnificance of HD until we moved here only to find that only ABC and SBS are digital. The local tower that retransmits NBN, Prime and Ten are only analog, and no-one seems to know if and when they will updated to digital. The analog looks awful, like a utube feed, it must be a real low bandwith feed they are using.

I think they have one hell of a nerve advertising it when its not going to be available to their viewers in some areas
