blind scanning is searching a satellite using the decoders 'automatic' function, which automatically finds all of the transponders and the respective channels they transmit and enters them into your channel list to browse.
many channels found may be encrypted and need an access card of some kind to view them.
this process is as opposed to manually entering a satellites transponder information and scanning the transponders manually one at a time to gather the same information.
not all decoders blind scan.
thats about it in a nutshell.

Transponder information is changing all the time, when you cant be bothered checking and inputing all of this for example blind scanning saves you all the hard work by finding all the new data automaticly and stores it.

but then yo uhave the arduous task of going through deleting all the crap channels that are either just crap or you dont have a card for so depending of what you are looking for both ways might take the same time.
the advantage of a blind scan is as global said, the transponders are changing all the time, so you might jag a channel that is normally encrypted but for the while has gone unencrypted for whatever reason, or find a good feed of a live event or something that the transponder info isnt listed for.
its a good thing to do to kill an hour or so on an otherwise boring saturday afternoon

Yep as bs_ink stated and also remember that Lyngsat can be a couple of days till they update the info on the website.
Blind scan is pretty instant up to date.
