    Default Extra ports question

I recently replaced my all in one modem/4 port router/ voip with a unit that doesnt have built in voip meaning I have to use one port for a Voip ATA box which only leaves 3 ports. Unfortunately I need 4

A quick Google shows me that 4+ port network switches arent expensive and if I have to I will take that option but its another bloody power adapter to plug in. Is there any powerless option that effectively turns one port in to 2 ?
I have never had a need for more than 4 ports so I am not sure what all my options are.

    TIA
    Sanity

    switch is the only solution....

some VOIP phones/adapters have inbuilt switches
so basically one inport - one outport

but yeh, switch is the one and only option.

i think the adapters you are thinking about is to run 2 ports through the one cable which is possible because theres usually 8 cables in cat5e and only 4 are being used

ive never seen a powerless option i know its a pain having the extra psu but thats the way it goes, also i would get an 8 port instead of the 4 port switch i got a small 8 port one from jaycar a few weeks back for $23 to install for a freind as you never know if you will ever need the extra ports

Yeah they are nice and cheap , I am just dreading yet another power adaptor for wanting just one extra port. But if thats my only option I will have to go with it , or I suppose I could use a wireless point. But thats another power adaptor

just replace the 4 port with an 8 and throw the four away...

(unless you are getting by with the 4 way on the modem...then you're screwed)

Sanity, Minitar MVA11 ATA has a LAN path through port. This way at least you won't loose a port.
