Default DVD player with USB port

Sorry for the dumb question... but if a DVD player has a USB port does that mean you can plug in an external hard drive and watch movies off the hard drive?

    Thanks.

Pioneer DVD players allow you to save you movies directly downloaded to a USB stick and play directly without having to jig any files. Excellent, at about $130 for an excellent DVD player with USB & HDMI as well.
shop @ aldi , you get aldi.

So far the dvd player I bought wouldn't play anything from my memory stick. Wouldn't even show up jpegs or mp3s. I called up the info line and the tech reckoned it could be the brand of memory stick that the dvd player doesn't recognise.

I have a lot to learn about all this stuff.

Thanks guys for the help =)

Sounds like bovine excrement to me.....there is usually a button or setting to switch between DVD and USB.

Yeah it has a button to switch between but it just won't read from the m/s at all.

I'll buy another brand of memory stick and if that doesn't work.... heads will roll
