all depends on the firmware:
Virgin don't brand their handsets (or so I've been told by a Virgin Mobile rep from their HQ over at Optus HQ).
Which means that the LG KU990 should have this firmware version:
SW Version:
KU990-MSM6280-V10e (either October 25 2007 or March 24 2008) XXX-XX (i.e.: No specific mobile country code and mobile operator code) R236015c
Media Version:
KU990-Media-V10e (either October 25 2007 or March 24 2008) OPN (Open Media Version, i.e.: not branded) - XX (no country code)
Module Version:
KU990- Module-V10e (either October 25 2007 or March 24 2008) OPN (Open Module Version, i.e.: not branded) Official
HW Version:
NYX_12c
DSP Version:
(empty)
Factory Version:
KU990-00-v10e-XX-XX (either October 25 2007 or March 24 2008)
Ok now that is out of the way, the only other way to tell is via the JOG wheel on the back panel:
Thats right, there are 2 versions of the KU990 (not mixing it up with the KE990 which is the GSM version of the Viewty)
The 1st version's JOG wheel is almost flat with a top section with pressure grip that your finger can grip to go left of right
The 2nd version (which I understand only 3 Mobile sold) has a raised top surface on the job wheel, that is the 2nd version and the ones that are harder to unlock, they are also V11a firmware based handsets (no major difference in the firmware versions, just a little faster through the menu and touch calibrations)
Anyway, make sure that when unlocking that you back up the NV file, if you dont and manage to unlock the handset using the hacked unlocker, you will loose bluetooth and IMEI number (which is not a bad thing if the handset has been reported stolen, which your wont be as you bought it prepaid) you can always reset those two using the qualcomm released software which lets you reprogram the IMEI, Bluetooth, Wifi MAC number (if it has wifi) and a few other things (like sound calibration settings).
All the info is over at look in the LG section.
Cheers
