The Topfield 7000 HAS had its problems and alot of support for them went to the beyonwiz.
Technically now the 7000 has good firmware and the Beyond has a few issues.
It really depends if you want networking support (beyonwiz) or just watching TV

have a read and that might give you a starting point

can vouch for the Beyonwiz if you've got the $1300 to spend, nice box, improving every time they release some firmeware

    Topfields are great.
you can load your own programs on it to do pretty much whatever you want.
most have usb to tx/rx data.
though only issue ive had is sometimes doing things on the box can slow down such as changing channel or goign through menus, but a quick reboot fixes this.
Have a read up on the topfield forums.

I have been looking at either but I need a unit that i can save files.

Anyone know if you can 'backup', and what file format the final products are?

Just Picked up a Beyonwiz (Pron Bay-on-wiz) DP-P1. HD STB
    It's got
    Dual Tuner (internal Loop)
    USB2
    10/100 Ethernet
SD, CF, MMC, and Memory Stick cards
Plays WMV, AVI, MPG, VOB, MP4, ASF, TP and TRP
    Music MP3, WMA, AAC, AC3
    Has a 200 gig drive.
The only problem I have with it at the moment is that the EPG is only done via the FTA networks or ICETV. There is no XML support at the moment.
Other than the EPG it is great as you can play files directly off your PC with out having to use something like a MVP.
The SP-S1 has a DVD player in it

Topfield is also not 1080p. It is 1080i.
Have had mine for about 10 months and have been frustrated by all the problems with it. There have been a couple of Firmware updates but there always seems to be something new that annoys the crap out of me.
I had the pvr 5000 before I upgraded to the 7000 and it was HEAPS more reliable. Only reason I got rid of it is cos I bought a new 42 inch lcd
(deliberately without a hd tuner) so I could buy the 7000.
The toppy has heaps of cool features. I just can't understand why they can't fix all the glitches.
Also, check out the Toshiba. It's full HD but is just missing a few features the toppy does (being able to bookmark, menu and remote a bit hard to work out)
but it's about $300 cheaper and like all things from Toshiba, it's well made.

Check out my DVICO TVIX 5130 PVR in the classified section of this forum. So much more than a PVR. I was using my modded Xbox as my media centre in the lounge room, this unit craps on it, and I can now watch my MKV movies on my TV.

Topfield has a new Distributer in Sydney. TopPro in Lidcombe, NSW.

    visit

I am not affiliated with them, just thought you guys might want to know, besides I'm selling the DViCO so that makes Topfield a competitor :P
