    Default Which mod chip

    Hi folks,

I'm looking at getting my new Wii modded but am unsure as to which mod chip i should go with.

I've seen loads of different places offering either the D2CKey or the Argon, which does everyone recommend?

    Cheers

Go with the D2CKey if you have the D2C chip.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

d2c as Argon is dearer and has issues with DRE.

I found out last night that Argon does not read "Silvers", even with 1.4 firmware
So with 4 firmware revisions, it still cant do what d2ckey does.

    However...eventually it will win.

I think Argon has gone onto 1.6 (providing silver backup)..

I'm actually looking at getting an Infectus2 to try out...

Does anyone know who carries them? It'd be used out of Australia.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for sharing!

Basically, I've got a a wii set (NTSC-J) modded with wiikey and is looking at getting another wii set (either pal or ntsc-u) to be fitted with an Infectus2 modchip. What I'm trying to do...is to learn more about the firmware of the wii....

btw, has anyone been successful to dump the fw of wii using either wiikey or sd gecko?

    Cheers!

D2C-key seems to be rock-solid for now, but Argon recently released V1.6 f/w update, supposedly fixs all bugs....time will tell Only concern with D2C-key is upgradeability, which is a bit hard to do(according to Infectus....but they would say that). If Nintendo make changes, then u may not have the flexibilty with D2C-key as opposed to Argon.

I recently put 1.6 on an a problematic argon for a customer, he's had for 2 weeks now and no calls so far, so it must be ok.

I wonder if this is why they are so hard to get atm, Nintendo are busy at work creating new chipsets???

Anyones comment on the D2Pro? Just been reading up that they are just like the D2Ckey but with the added flexability to upgrade.

On the D2Pro site its saying the D2Ckey is updatable.

d2prog is a JTAG programmer for programming/updating Actel A3P devices, such as D2Pro and D2CKey.

Hi Mate, I've installed a few now, seem to be relatively straight forward, my only concern is the lack of firmwares.

To be blatantly honest, I find a d2ckey neater to install. D2pro seems to have wires going everywhere. Which IMHO presents a problem as wires are too easily knocked off points.

The WiiKey is for the older D2B chipsets. The newer Wii cosoles have the D2C chipset which requires the newer chips such as the D2CKey, D2Pro or Argon chips.

BTW a point the D2pro neglects to mention is that although the chip IS upgradable it is NOT USER upgradable. Unlike the wii-key.

That said I am fairly certain that a need to upgrade the D2C-key is moot given that it is not patching like the wii-key was, I do not see how Nintendo could stop it from working.

I have also seen a few LAH 104xxxx s and they still have D2C chipsets in them. They are from new manufacturing lots but being supplied only to people who had them on preorder.

Not tried either argon or d2pro as I like to stick to what I know works until the others have proven themselves. D2C-key seems rock solid, think I might be ready to buy some D2pros tho, but they are 30% more expensive. Anyone tried those flex boards?

I tried the flex boards, found kynar to be shitloads better as you can ensure a decent connection.

I tested one out with some heat and the pads came adrift....lol
Iron was set at 320C so not overly hot either.

Stick to kynar mate, you'd prolly do it just as quick anyway. I know I reckon I could.

Flex boards are great after a while. I have a couple of installers i supply that do d2ckeys in 12 minutes or so in front of people. Its just a matter of getting used to it.

A Flex install can actually make a better connection than anything else because there are 2 points of connection. 1 at the top of flex, and one at the bottom.

Courses for horses i guess....lol.....I prefer wiring the D2C-key as it has direct contact with pins. . The flex pads dont seem to line up all the time,so leaves room for error.

Yeah the flex debate is a funny one, we have it at about 60% of our customers love them and can slap a D2CKey into a Wii in 25min, then we have 40% that would not piss on them if they were on fire. lol

I started telling people they have to try to know where they stand.
