Never mind found the info for sharing:

    Hi Folks...
Here is what I find as the best way to get Excellent files to play on the 360...

Most of the HD content is .MKV files...

What I used to use was Winavi which was idiot proof but reduced the files so much and also sometimes left the Hard subs in the Movie...

Firstly Im NO Expert but I never substitute Quality for Speed....

I have tried Various other methods but have now settled on Encode360....

    Ok What I do...

Say I now have a .MKV file , I want to convert this to as High Quality WMV file as best it can be.
For Example You have a .MKV file of 6.6 Gig...
The First Rule is NEVER INCREASE the file Size also Dont Decrease it..Well too much anyway..

    Load the file into Encode360...
Go into Advanced options and get the Exact running time of the File
    Then go to the website

This is what you will use to calculate the video bitrate

    The advanced settings should be
    WVC1 & 1 Pass CBR
I use Automatic Scaling but have never tried anything else there...

One you have put the running time of the movie into the WMV Bitrate Calculator
you try to get the Bitrate to make the file as close too, but NOT over the original file size...
    Now Encode it...
Your New WVC file should be approx original file size now..
All you now need is Dual Layer DVD..
Use your buring software to MAKE DATA DVD
You will now have a WMV file on that Disc
Insert it into your 360, Go to Video, Select Source and Play Disc
I have a HD-DVD player and the file I now have is damn close to the Original...

    enjoy

You can play from an external hdd. You can format it as fat32 and live with the 4Gb file size limit or you can get yourself a copy of a program called MacDrive and format a drive as HFS+ and not have to worry about the file size limit. The only downside is that the drive wont be accessable on any windows pc which doesnt have macdrive installed.

I use an 80Gb 2.5" laptop drive in a caddy and it powers off the 360 usb port no problem at all.

This is how to format a disk with MacDrive

    1. Download Macdrive 7.0. or better
    2. Install Macdrive onto your PC.
    3. Restart Your PC.
    4. Start "Macdrive" by clicking the icon from the start menu or desktop.
    5. Click on format and repair mac disk.
    6. Tick modify Mac volumes than choose "Next".
    7. Click on the external usb hard drive than click on initialize disk
    8. Click on "free space" then "new volume".
    9. Name the drive .
    10. Make sure format is Mac OS Extended (HFS+).
    11. Press ok .

Sounds good, where can i download this mac drive? I think i still need to use the encode360 yeah?

I'm encoding a movie now but it's taking ages even though i'm running a core duo 2 with a gig of ram.

Search the usual torrent sites such as TPB or Mininova etc and you should be able to find it or you could buy it
