Default Jap turbo timer and remote starter

I've just bought a 96 Toyota Caldina turbo and it has this turbo timer / remote starter unit.

There's not a lot of info printed on it. The name on it is "STARBO" and the model number is RS-60R.

Has anyone got an info on this unit or a spare remote for it?

Yeah i have some info on it.....no one seems to have any info on them. LOL

Noticed a lot of forums are looking for info on them.

One thing about turbo timers is that they are a little bit of a gimmick, all you need to learn to do is stay off boost for the last 5 minutes when getting to your destination.

I have a HKS one and only use it after the car has been abused like when parking in the pits on track days.

I could also have just left the ignition on and done the same thing. LOL.

Good luck in finding any info on them Studio1.

Noticed some posts on a aerial fitted to the remotes, looks pretty specialized.

If you run synthetic oil, it is far less lightly to burn in the bearing housing and lines. It just tends to roll away.

I do not hammer my car but I have never had a problem unlike the previous owner who blow a turbo via mineral oil carbonized in the lines.

I know that because I was very lucky and got the full print out of the car service history from the dealer and it noted that.

I’ve since fully rebuilt the motor and replaced the turbo seals with carbon seals as the old one leaked and when I pulled it down it was clean as a whistle with no sign of burn oil etc at all.

Anyone running a turbo with anything less than a synthetic blend shouldn't be driving a turbo.

Full synthetic is the way to go.

Ive seen the results of Castrol GTX1,2 and 3 on non turbo engines and cannot believe the amount of sludge and gum deposits left behind.

Ive also seen the results of Magnatec oil in older engines, the stuff should be sold with a warning label.
Many factory service departments learned on clients cars the hard way and now refuse to use it on anything with more than 150,000km.

Oils ain't oils....Valvoline mineral for the old Ford on gas and Motul 300V Competition is what i use in Godzilla.

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas guys.

Yeah, I'd already Googled for this device, and as I am of the same opinion about turbo timers I have already removed it from the car. Seems like the Japs make them to suit specific vehicles as the loom that comes out of the unit has a multi-pin plug on it that hooks straight into the Caldina factory wiring.

sort of a hijack but meh

I personally wouldn't use Edge in an SR20, it's a little to unrefined for me.

does the SR20 have any modifications?

if it does I would only be using Motul or Royal purple, there both sort of common oils, if they don't have it in store order it in! IMHO there is to much shit overpriced oil on the market

i.e. Penrite, Nulon, Valvoline, even Mobil 1 oil is pretty Average, but that is my personal opinion, there are millions out there that would disagree
