Anyone approached the clone manufacturer and tell them the issues with the
card reader hinge pin and serial port .
If they fix the serial port issues ( they going to sell alot more )
Who know's they may be keen to fix the issues ( as the customers always right )
They probably not aware of the issues and have gone through the efforts to produce a clone ( surely they'll be keen to get it right )

I'd say that there's precious little chance of a clone manufacturer trying to overcome the limitations of the original design.

AFAIK the serial port hasn't worked (for CS) on DM boxes since the DM600 was released, there's enough posts on various forums whinging about the lack of comms, and given the DM7025 and DM800 still have the same problem it ain't gonna be fixed by DMM.

Seems like the SmargoPlus card reader is the way to overcome the problem on those boxes with USB ports.

As for the broken hinge, very sad, zed I hope you get that fixed, it would bug the crap outta me knowing I paid so much for a DM800 only to have it broken.

    Good morning.

If you look closely you will see that the CLONE has the heatsink fitted and the GENUINE does not...isn't that sad??

see post #11 for heatsink, just under tuner...next to red SATA cable

The orange card runs just as hot in an IQ2 as it does in this box, so does whitey.

@Jonc-neither came with the back plate for cable tuner...(the DM600 does...)

A big thanks to the shy member who made these two available for dissection/pre-mortem...

Hmmm, notice how the DIP pin header by the sata cable is in different places here. Wonder if it's board version related?

Pretty neat fit allright but doesn't look like a lot of room for air circulation in there.

If you get 2 minutes look at the Pli wiki as it has most things in it based on the DM800 (I did a chunk of it a few weeks ago)

remember you can not make a silk scarf out of a sours ear .. what annoys the crap out of me is the temp of the tuner unit, can cook an egg on it, here.

It didn't help me figure out how to start recording...

Or how to set up the smargo reader.

No offence Jonc...but I hate the Pli menu interface...it's like it was design/navigated by someone who was ambi-dyslexic and about 9 years old.

The Pli team should just rip off the Gemini presentation and be done with it.

When I press the video button on the remote i expect video, not some weird key reassignment...
