Default Which 360 should I get?

I am going to buy a 360 in the next couple of days. Which dvd drive should I get to make it the easiest to mod? I guess I will have to buy a pre-owned one from eb or cash converts as I here all the new consoles have a lite-on drive which can not be modded, is this correct? Also is buying an old console bad as I hear they get that red ring death and dont have hdmi?

Thanks for your help. I managed to get a new 360 from game and it has a benq drive.

I have been searching everywhere for a guide on how to flash it but all the ones I have found seem to be out dated. From what I gather there are 2 methods. One which requires a nforce chipset and a new one which works with most chipsets and doesn't need soldering. Which method is easier as I think I do have an old pc somewhere with nforce sata if I need it? Can someone please point me in the direction of a good up to date tutorial. I am really struggling here, have been out of the modding scene way too long haha

The other chipsets work fine on Benq/Liteon, or just get a VIA6421 PCI sata card, works well on Samsungs too.

I just bought one, the arcade package from tricky dicks for $238.00 & it includes a wireless controller how cheap is that.

on an other note, how realiable are the xboxes now, would you risk modding them straight after purchasing?

I modded my benq drive with ease using iprep + usb dongle. Google it. No soldering, just plugged the drive into my sata and booted of the usb dongle. If it does not work on your PC try it on a friends.
