    Default The terminator is real.

US government reveals multiple kill vehicle.

The US government has released video of its latest weapon that looks and moves like the murderous Skynet flying droids from the Terminator movie series — and the name is just as menacing.

The Multiple Kill Vehicle (MKV) robot, built by defence contractor Lockheed Martin, is designed to be mounted to a carrier missile shot into space to take out enemy nuclear missiles.

The video shows the MKV using small rockets to hover and track left and right inside a special test facility at Edwards Air Force Base.

According to the Missile Defence Agency, during a ballistic missile attack a carrier with a cargo of small kill vehicles get in the way of any enemy missiles.

"Using tracking data from the Ballistic Missile Defence System and its own seeker, the carrier vehicle will dispense and guide the kill vehicles to destroy any warheads or countermeasures," a press release from the MDA stated.

Lockheed-Martin rival contractor Raytheon is also developing its own MKV.

The MKV is just a small piece in the puzzle that makes up the US's controversial missile defence shield, referred to as "Star Wars" when first announced by the Reagan administration in the 1980s at the height of the Cold War.

What began as the Strategic Defence Initiative in 1983 became the Ballistic Missile Defence Organisation in 1993 before being renamed the Missile Defence Agency in 2002.

President-elect Barack Obama has publically criticised the highly complex program, which will cost an estimatedA$80.6 billion between 2004 and 2009, saying he would not "weaponise space".

The concept is feasible but implementing it is another thing.
The Lasar was to be the 'Death Ray' of Flash Gordon era fiction but while it can indeed be dangerous, a 'Death Ray' its not.
If I remember correctly one of the failings of the Regan era 'Star Wars' project was the limited warning times you had from Launch to Detonation and the multiplicity of angles needed to be computed to actually aim and make contact with an incoming missile.
And then there is the Enemy who if they are going to launch an attack, dont actually co operate by telling you and only send the odd ICBM but many and as they have a pretty fair idea where YOUR defences are (Spies, you know) it wouldnt take a genius to work out if they launched a few 'Expendables' to get you to launch your defences, the following Real Deal missiles would probably get through.
Good Ol Ronnie was a master of rattling Sabres and shouting Yippeee Ki AAAA.......
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

The president is wasting money on junk. In this economy many people are struggling. He should be helping his country out instead of making more and more weapons. If you had watched Olympus has fallen you would have realized that making deadly weapons is bad for the country itself. Imagine that weapons gets into the wrong hands. It could create a huge problem in which Obama would be to blame. They should focus on the more important thing in life. This world is weird.

Not sure if that defense initiative is still being planned. The one good thing you can say about it is that at least its not something that could harm other countries .

I looked up "Multiple kill vehicle" on google and found the Wiki page, which states that:

On April 6, 2009, United States Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced that the Pentagon's budget would be reshaped. Under this proposal the MKV program would be terminated
Apparently this statement makes reference to an article in the New York Times:
