Unhappy Suzuki swift engine turns over but not start

    Hi ppl
I have a problem with a friends car thats been sitting in the back yard garage for 2 months up at Deewhy.
The battery is good, the thing turns over but won't start up anymore!
Last time it was driven was 2 months ago (now out of rego) but I need to move it! So as I have no idea what could be wrong with it, Can someone give me some pointers as to what steps I could try to get it going?
I don't want an essay, just some ideas on getting it started!
    Much appreciated for any replies!
BTW. I will be posting an ad in the morning with it for sale with all the details coz I need to get rid of it. Im way to tired right now sorry. SLEEP DEPRIVED

Pull a spark plug out after you have been trying to start it.
Does it have fuel on it?
Car will need fuel and spark to run.
If you connect the removed plug back on to the lead and earth the body of the plug, try to start it, Is there spark?
What happens if I press alt + F4?

take the air filter off the carbe and tip a cap full of petrol down it. Then you will know if its a fuel problem

And you could also try aerostart or something similar if it's efi, you'll probably want some jumperleads too, the battery can go flat pretty quick if it's turning over and not starting.

To start the car you need 3 things.

    1/Compression.

    2/Spark

    3/Fuel.

We are going to assume it was running before it was parked.
Therefore we will assume the compression is ok and the engine isnt blown.

Remove a sparkplug and check if the electroded is wet.
If it is wet, remove them all and crank the engine over afew times to kick out all the excess fuel that may have flooded it.
Dry all the plugs with a rag, sometimes i also but the electrodes over a flame like on a stove to dry them out.

While the plug is out check if you have spark by shorting the outer body of the plug to the engines head while someone cranks the engine.
Make sure you hold the plug with a pair of insulated pliers or let it sit ontop of the head, dont hold it in your hands as you will get a bad shock.

Put them in and try to start it again.

Still will not start, the plugs were dry and you have spark?

    Its your fuel system.
Check you have fuel and that your fuel pump is pumping.
If its carb remove the air cleaner and pump the accelerator you should see a stream of fuel. If not your needle and seat are stuck shut or you fuel pump is not pumping or you have no fuel.

EFI, when turning on he ignition listen for the fuel pump turning on. On some cars remove the filler cap and listen into the filler hole for a second or so of noise where the pump is building pressure.

    Why WD40?

    Aerostart was mentioned, not WD40.

I don't think WD40 will resolve your issue. In fact it can often make things worse when used in the wrong hands (VCR's, CD's & DVD die when home mechanics fill them up with WD40 )

Anyway, RP7 is a far Superior water dispersant & lube than WD40

yea well believe it or not I dealt with one bright stock broker once that used WD40 on his laptop to gain better contact with the battery about a year ago.
Im not sure if he used it on it b4 it crapped itself, well Im sure he did but he claims he didnt. lol

WD40 is a water dispersant. It's is a hydrocarbon, but it's flamability is reduced by the use of Carbon Dioxide

WD-40 is the trademark name of a widely-used water displacing spray commonly sold in hardware stores and other such retail outlets. Developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen, then working for the San Diego Rocket Company, it was originally designed to repel water and prevent corrosion,[1] and later was found to have numerous household uses.

WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. Larsen was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion, by displacing the standing water that promotes it. In the process, he arrived at a successful formula on his 40th attempt.

WD-40 is primarily composed of various hydrocarbons.

WD-40 was first used by Convair to protect the outer skin of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion.[1] The product first became commercially available on store shelves in San Diego in 1958.[1]

    Formulation
WD-40's main ingredients, according to U.S. Material Safety Data Sheet information, are:

50%: Stoddard solvent (i.e., mineral spirits -- primarily hexane, somewhat similar to kerosene)
25%: Liquefied petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant; carbon dioxide is now used instead to reduce WD-40's considerable flammability)
15+%: Mineral oil (light lubricating oil)
    10-%: Inert ingredients

Aerostart is dimethyl ether (methoxymethane) and is highly combustible

if it is flooding try holding the accelerator flat to the floor while cranking.

WD40 is helpfull if your engine is wet like after a pressure wash or after driving through deep water.

Aero start is like pouring a highly combustable fuel down your carby, it fires and burns easyer than petrol.

Dont spray WD40 down your carb while trying to start it. LOL

If your plugs are dried properly you wont need any spray, i never use any spray, i just make sure everything is in its correct condition before starting.
