    Default Pacman question

    Hi,
Seems like as good a place as any to ask..
Is there any rule as to when the fruit is offered in a Pacman level?
    and
Is fruit offered in every level?

It has been awhile, but I think they come up randomly. But, I also think pacman didn't use random variables as you can accomplish a level by following the same path with the same result - so maybe they come up from a certain sequence...

But that all depends on which version

    Did that even make sense?

Although this does not answer your question, it may be helpful in the future

Whoa, check out the hair bow, now I know why Pacman finds her so attractive.

So you don't even get fruit in every level.
maybe I need to play some MAME...

Art, I remember reading about this a while ago. There are two fruit appearances per level and you need to hit them both to get the perfect score (Billy Mitchell did it around the 20th anniversary).

Ohh stolen from the FAQ on Gamefaqs see

There isn't much to this short section, but the fruits do not appear at random.
They appear after a certain number of dots have been eaten. The first is around
68 dots (I don't know the exact number) but it is when around 1/3 of the dots
have been eaten. The second fruit appears when around 1/3 or 1/4 of the dots
are left on the stage. Using this knowledge to your advantage, plan to be
around the starting position (where the fruits appear) without any ghosts in
the way when the fruit appears so you can munch it easily.

According to Twin Galaxies (the log of high scores) Billy Mitchell has "finished" it with a perfect score. I would expect it to have been clocked a few times in MAME especially with the cheats avaliable for it

Thanks rougefan, I think you are right. I was pretty sure it was triggered by an event.

It has been clocked if you want to say that, but the game was supposed to be never ending.
Not everyone believes it possible to make it to level 257 without cheating,
but if you do, the kill screen is gone, and the maze returns to normal.

Something else I found on the net...
Did you know the first English speaking Pacman machines were called Puck-Man,
and the name was changed because it was thought vandals would turn
the "P" into an "F" on the side of the arcade machine cabinets ?

Hardly just fruit for my version either

The Pot was supposed to slow all characters down (slow time), but I got too lazy to implement it,
and my own head was originaly an Easter Egg.
