Some new HD channels have appeared
HD Channel AA
HD Channel BB
HD Channel D
HD push
all encrypted
Looks like programs have started on the HD channels... going by the EPGs
Some ESPN content on one and Air Crash Investigations/NAT Geo on the other..
One other thing i found was a channel that seems to be doing a test of SD AVC.
So i recon they are seeing how much more they can squeeze our content down.
To go AVC (Mpeg-4) on all current SD channels will be way off, as all decoders will have to be replaced.
Anyone seeing the HD pics from C1? how are they looking so far?
Can't see pics yet but can record the stream for testing.
NBA Friday is on now in h264
A 1hr recording is around 7-8GB's
The bit rate is averaging around 13-14mb
Max bit rate is 18mb
Those bit rates are higher than our local TV HD channels...
wow. thats pretty high, and considering our FTA HD is MPEG-2 rather than H.264, I think fo.tel want their HD to look really good. everyone who gets it will be looking closely... i know I will
I still cant believe that a premium channel like discovery is currently only 480x576 (and still 4x3 for that matter).. i mean, even the other discovery channels, ie science, travel etc are at least 544x576!
I'm keeping an eye on the EPG for some more clues as to the start date. As its stands I've only seen shows running for the past 5 or so days... so still early.
any update as to the types of programs being shown ?
Its certainly DVB-S2 H.264 for Fox HD - which is not MPEG2 thankfully, but MPEG4.
I see only one sat, see link, with AUS coverage that uses HD MPEG2 on C band over AUS, the others to date (including Voom and Luxe TV) are DVB-S2 H.264, which a normal DVB-S decoder won't tune.
Terrestrial HD is MPEG2. That said, I have an H.264 LCD screen working our MPEG2 just fine.
FOXTEL HD+ will support both 720p and 1080i HD formats, so that you can enjoy your favourite programs the way the program makers intended. Both the 720p and 1080i formats will be carried through FOXTEL’s network. The MPEG4 compression technology that FOXTEL is using ensures the highest possible quality HD images and sound delivered straight to your living room.

You won't need a different dish. When it launches it will be on the same sat (optus c1) but a second sat in the same location will be added later this this year (optus d3) along with more channels. Not need to point the dish, same spot in the sky but different frequency range.
Using Kathrein UFS 910 linux box, I can see pics on "xPush avc sd" HD channel. The other HD channels show epg but I get no pics. All HD channels are NDS encrypted.
That is correct pheggie.
