Default Another "my ps2 will not spin up disks" Thread

    Afternoon all, thanks for reading.

I have a small problem with my ps2. It doesn't like to spin up discs. It's a 50002 series with a mod chip and laser protection mod. The mod chip has been in for the last 6 months and has been working like a trooper.

I have check cables, belts and I have dusted like never before. But still no go. I can heard the laser head go back and forth and there is a red light there but no action.

From what I have read it looks like a focus issue, would that be correct?? or is it a chip driver thingy gone south?? Or is there a way I can test to find out which one??

    Thanks once again.

    M

More than likely its the laser, but it could be the driver(LA6508 or somethinh like that), IC, or if lucky just the fuse near this IC. Only way to confirm is if u have working spares

Hi Ljay thanks for the reply.

If it was the laser would it stop emitting a red light?? Because it still does the red light stuff.
Also on a closer look since there is a little movement in the spindle, does that mean it is controller ic not the fuse, as the fuse would stop it from working all together? Am I correct in assuming that??

    Cheers

Assume= makes an "ass out of U & me"...lol....sorry had to throw that in.

It could still be the laser. And the spinning of the spindle could be from another driver IC on the opposite side. I think the IC I was talking about it controls the focus & tracking of the optic coils(been a while since i did one of these).
