    Default panasonic WV-CS850B rs-485

anyone know how to control a panasonic WV-CS850B ptz cctv camera using windows software?.
    if there is any.
aparently it can also support the pelco-d protocol, but the manual only shows the panasonic protocol,

or to get the DIGINET software by Kodicom to control it, ,im using a rs-232 to rs485 converter, wich doesnt seem to work on pelco or panasonic, or multiple other types

the protocol shows as PELCO-D SD, wjat the SD means i dont know,

and what wires i have to use on the camera itself

    thanks

    On the camera there should be a fly lead with a terminal block on the end, this is the RS485 cable, colors are as follows;

    Brown - Ground
    Red - Transmit B
    Orange - Transmit A
    Yellow - Receive B
    Green - Receive A

By memory I pretty sure WV-CS950,CS850B,CW860A use Panasonic protocol, you will need a protocol converter.

There are two DIP switches on the camera, an 8-bit switch and a 4-bit switch. The 8-bit DIP switch is to address the unit number. The 4-bit DIP switch selects termination ON/OFF and half/full duplex selection for RS485 communications.

Switch settings are read in to the camera when the power is turned on. Make sure to turn it off, then turn it back on after changing the switch settings.

If in doubt Rexel distribute Panasonic, give them a call and double check.

    thanks,
im not a buisness person, so rexel would be quite an expensive way to go wouldnt it?,
especialy if its only panasonic, then ide have to get a panasonic ptz controller(if i cant get pc software to work) wich always ends up being triple the price,

the converter i have is a simple ebay one, with pins out t/r+ and t/r- and gnd
it doesnt support the 4 wire that the camera uses, wich i have no idea about configuring it,
are there rs485 adapters cheap(like under 20$) thay i can use?

You will find there is dip switch to set that makes it two wire.

ok i see the dip to make it half duplex, now which wires are used?

    Brown - Ground
    Red - Transmit B
    Orange - Transmit A
    Yellow - Receive B
    Green - Receive A

as you stated above the pinouts, what 2 wires are used for the 2 wire connection?

Found it, give this a go. I would teach you how to write your own commands and send them, but that only helps on the test bench, not really a solution for a customer

    This is correct

For Pelco, dip sw 1-4 of the 8 way are that address.
I think dip sw 6 is pelco. If not it will be sw 7. You can tell if it is correct when you power up the camera. in the on screen display, you will see the camera address and either a P for Pelco or A for American Dynamics.

The baud can also be set via the dip switches but you will need to refer to the manual for this as it is a power up sequence. It will default to 19K2 8N1. From memort you can only go down to 4800 via the dip sw settings. Below this can be achieved via program mode.

programming the panasonic wv-cs850/wv-cs854, i downloaded the zmx software from there site but it only programs unit #1
and i have 2 units there software is hard coded to unit #1, the dvr software i use is the diginet , which as far as i know, cant access setup parameters on cameras, unless there is a hidden setting,
any suggestions on that prob would be helpful.
or a place i can buy a CHEAP(yea im only home, not business) controller with the panasonic protocol,so i don't have to reconfigure the settings (to pelco) on the cam up 20m..

something ide love if someone designed software,/made there own,
could use a PS2 or old style joystick to control cameras,i got one, inuf buttons on it to drive a plane...
    anyway,
main concern, panasonic protocol setup, unit #2 and possibly above in case i get more,
    thanks if anyone can help
