Axle stands - Ferris Bueller style ???
In the old torana days you could unscrew the cable and attatch a drill and upp the km's that way (of course reverse doesn't work), but be careful how fast you go. Those cables do snap
I work for a company who purchased a ute for us to use for our daily jobs.
It has been agreed we purchased the wrong vehicle for the job.
Nothing wrong with this but cant carry the loads we need.
We need to clock up about 70,000 km in the next 2-3 months to get rid of this ute.
PS, im gona buy it. So we need to somehow connect the speedo to a drill or something to clock up its Km's so we get rid of this vehicle.
Its a 2005 Mitsubishi Triton.
Any ideas??

When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.
Dont know if a wrecker is an option for you.
Im sure a wrecker will have a high K cluster to help you out

go have a chat to a mech and he'll know who can help you. Usually an instrumentation tech. The oddometer can be 'reprogrammed' with what ever km's you want

Find where the sender for the speedo is and connect a oscillator to it. I did that many years ago on the bosses XF and clocked many km`s on the weekend .He blew a fuse because only he had the key and was accountable for the Km`s.
I did it to a TA22 Celica a few years ago with a high speed die grinder the most I put on it after about 2 hours straight was 10,000k's and we broke the cable and the die grinder!
Take it to a used car yard, there pretty good at doing it I was gonna but a GQ Patrol from a yard once, it had 230k's on the clock and next service was due at 340k's on the service sticker on the window...
I didn't think youcould just change the clusters anymore. Isn't it stored in 2 places and they both have to be within xxx amount otherwise it will come up with some sort of error?
If its got an old style mechanical odometer, you can open it up and turn the numbers to where you need them.
Not that i would know anything about that.
Another method that i havent tried it to undo the speedo cable from the tranny and connect a low speed drill to the end of the cable.
Check that your speedo is going the right way first though.
Yeah a high speed drill or die grinder would tear the crap out of the speedo cable.
Not sure if this is a Urban myth but I was told by someone who reckons they new the person involved ...Years ago a local traffic operations policeman did the old stands trick to up the km on the patrol car whilst it was in his shed. Well he must have forgotten to chock the front wheels properly but the car came off the stands and went through the back of his shed. A subsequent attempt to get the damage fixed to the car was discovered and the officer was sacked. I wouldn't suggest using that method.
Just a thought if you are using a fuel card and the km’s are recorded or if it is serviced at the one place who would record the km’s travelled then it might form the basis of inquiries if the leasing company smells a rat and thinks they are being ripped. I would wind it up in increments and have a cover story ready re lots of trips or something.
The diagnostic reading from the ECU might be interesting too. Zero engine rev’s while the Ute is doing 400 KMH impressive.
Spot on.
Fuel card, recorded kms etc, so can only be done in increments so an old spedo from a wreckers was not an option. Luckily no engin diag forwarded when serviced.
We have to enter the kms only when we use the card. Weekend and holiday use is permitted with no limit on where or kms we can travel only that we pay fuel and dont use card between midnight fri and midnight sun.
Found out its mechanical so drill option sounds easiest and safest.
Worth buying a cheap bunnings drill to bust $20.00 ish. Replacement warranty
I will try low speed drill ( not to break cable).
Thanks for everyones replies.
Looks like ill be doing the old dying relo on the other side of Aust trick.
get one of those yumcha dremals where you can adjust the speed

the instrument cluster can be reprogrammed what area ares are you from ?
it is not stored anywhere else trust me (eg ecu )
The ECU will store abnormalities such as codes associated with high vehicle speeds but zero rpm if its fully electronic and the ignition was on. It may just come up as an error code pointing towards a sensor but would not be traceable back to whats been done. If it was a worry, a simple ECU reset would remove any codes by disconnecting the battery.
That is if its fully electronic but in this case its mechanical.
Just give higher than normal fuel card mileage readings and wind up the clock manually by tearing down the instrument cluster before each service so they can note the mileage of just do it before you buy it if isn't needing a service.
Its not hard to open the cluster, get the mechanism out and turn the mileage wheels to whatever figure you want.
Just take your time, and manipulate the mechanism gently.
You will need some 44 Gallon drums to absorb the extra fuel required
Reality is an invention of my imagination.

If you do fiddle the Speedo, wheels make sure, when you are done to push all the wheels up so if there is any free play in them they all line up at the top as they would naturally and not a little up and down on each wheel. Most people would not notice but it’s a tell tale if you know.

PS: The hard part is not removing the speedo needle as if you do you won't know where it was and that could get very expensive via speeding fines as you try and work out what its really doing. Perhaps buy a spare Speedo from the wreckers and swap that in and out.
The old days we bought a new speedo and installed it saying old one was at such and such miles when replaced
today it would only reqiuire an ecu repair (hint) with km reset to 0 when new eeprom installed
