The story does not say that microsoft is telling people to use another browser.

A senior security advisor at Trend Micro, Rick Ferguson, is quoted as saying, "In this case, hackers found the hole before Microsoft did. This is never a good thing."

Mr Ferguson told the BBC, "If users can find an alternative browser, then that's good mitigation against the threat."

But Microsoft advised against take this course of action, adding that the firm was trying to get the issue resolved as soon as possible.

Been running Mozilla F Fox for a year now, no adware, malware or spyware. Running Fox with Adblock Plus and Web of Trust (WOT) I'd say that's better.

I dont run antivirus on my work computer, just re-image every boot with ghost cast server...takes 60 seconds....who cares...

    Firefox?

Doesn't show all the tabs when I go into Qantas Club profile.

When I do an international money transfer in CBA it formats the screen wrong.

    Compatibility is everything....sorry.

    Fair call z80.
I am not at the point that I can delete ie yet.
It is always there as a backup, it gets used a couple of times a week.
Firefox is getting better compatibility wise though.

Firefox has had some critical updates also as of recent!Or have you missed them?Things are all Not that squeaky clean with this browser either?Mozilla sends you email warnings, threats, updates to review ,apply.
The tabs ,an other functionally, tools dont always work as expected as in the past as reliable,an time out errors drive many nuts,on slower connection speeds as per here in Aust.on default settings.Just check complaints in many alternative forums here in Oz an elsewhere.Anyway I still use Firefox personally on multiple machines an still find Int.Explorer browser usefull to get that website that stalls on time out errors an such.Just a dam! load of updates tho to keep it healthy weekly an sometimes daily with windows updates!Google Chrome looks very clean an streamline for a brower, but is still a unknown I feel as off its recent arrival to the scene.an maybe security flaws yet havent been investigate in any significant way for a lenght of time.from alpha, beta testing to now!as the web threats change an evolve quickly. But then again the Google mob have more resourse than we imagine sometimes an impliment stuff quickly an efficiently before our eyes before others do?much more than the humble search engine of a few years ago!

To put this thread back on track:

    There are workarounds for compatibility.

I say RELIABILITY is of the most up most importance which is unfortunately a virtue that seems to be long lost.
Is this because we have learnt to simply accept the faults of today's no. 1 promoted OS?
Is this also because we must buy products made in China as there are often only few alternatives?
    I see there parallels.
Update: A deletion of features that work well and ain't broke but are deemed outdated in order to add things that are up to date and broken.
Compatibility: A word soon to be deleted from our dictionaries as it is outdated.
Humans: Entities that are not only outdated but broken... AI-self-learning-update-error...terminate...terminate...

What other software company finds it necessary to download patches and fixes for their software almost hourly?.

At a guess, I'd say every Anti-Virus program that want's to stay up-to-date and try and protect the operating system that they're designed to protect.

So you'd only buy a "non" up-dating Antivirus program?

I'd say these software packages need to be dynamic and able to be progressively updated so as to take into account new threats.
