    Talking Wii Update

    G'day All,

My Wii is currently running 3.2E however I've got a couple of new games that want to update. Are there any disadvantages to connecting the Wii to the net and getting the latest update?

The machine is only used to play games, no homebrew or anything like that at this stage.

    Thanks in advance

The wii homebrew channel only works upto 3.3 last time I looked if you upgrade to 3.4 it wont work.

All other games I have tried work ok.

I was under that impression too, that updating to 3.4 removed the Homebrew Channel but I updated it last night, from 3.2E to 3.4E and the Homebrew Channel is still there, and still working so I'm not sure what's going on now!

So it's safe to use the software update on a Wii with a chip?

To my knowledge, the things that were disabled by the updates have mostly now been rectified, or there are ways around it, at least until the next update anyway.....

Just let the Game update ur Wii from the diskwith no problems. generally the 3.4E update will kill the Homebrew channel but u can reinstall the channel for homebrew if u need it with the Twilight Hack but it wont be there when u reset the Wii there is also a Homebrew Disk Loader that u can load the homebrew channel from DVD

Be careful, you can't install WAD's with WAD Manager v1.3 any more with the latest update.

Hi Locals, long time no chat

Anyway I would NOT recommend updating ATM, I'm a new Wii owner, but I have been doing heaps of research.

At the minimum you won't be able to use "Freeloader" to load some other region games that can't be region changed.

Try using "brickblocker" on the games that want to update and see if they will play then.

I can point you to some apps if you need, but I won't link now as I'm going to bed.

Big day planned down the skate bowl tomorrow

The biggest change with 3.4 is the change to the user agreement that states that it no longer needs your permission to download new updates. So if your connected to WFC the Wii will download and install new updates without confirmation from the user. Best to stay at 3.2 to be safe. As rat mentioned use wii brickblocker to take the updates of the isos and you won't need to update to play the latest games.

If you run the iso through Wii brickblocker first you will not need to update and you can play all the games.

Not with some games, try doing that with Animal crossing and see how you go.
If you don't update to 3.3 at least you can not play the game.

Do you need to run it through brickblocker every time you want to play it?

    Hi Guys,

I have been softmodding quite a few Wii's lately and always deliberately update to 3.4. When I first got my Wii for Xmas I accidently updated to 3.4 before I did any research or knew about the twilight hack. But I found a great guide how to get everything going on 3.4 and I haven't looked back.

    Check here.....

I have found a couple of games that work on mine that don't work on my friends modchipped 3.3...sort of "future proofed!"
