The Wiiclip is one part and the chip is another. Most places are selling them together with a chip already on them. That said however, the new consoles with serials higher than LAH1088 will not accept the clip so make sure you have an older Wii. ozmodchips and modsupplier both sell the clips I think you will find.

That model should be able to accept the WiiClip.

Are there any advantages to soldering as opposed to using a clip on chip besides the cost savings. How hard is it to actually solder the chips.....is there much chance of damaging anything when dismantling the unit and doing the soldering.

I have a work station and am not new to electronics but would like to way up any benefits of paying someone to do the mod for me or paying the extra for a clip and doing it this way.

There also seem to be a few different chips available. What are the recommendations for a late model wii with a serial no starting with LAH1071

    Thanks for your advice.

if you have any exp with soldering . or at least better than skills than most , hardwiring the chip in is the by far the best option paulfam99 .
A clip should be fine on your machine . If you want to solder in and do not want all the fiddly tiny bits , then get a D2sun chip .

Thanks Ozchips. So do you sell them and if so how much? I'd rather buy from you since your a supporter of Austech.

You seem to have alot of Yowii chips on your site and the other chip I have seen are the wiikey V2.

While your updating me can you also tell me if you sell the R4 card, I've refered alot of people to other sites as you don't have them listed.

    Cheers

    Paul

Mate the R4 is a old cart. Look for something newer such as the AceKard, DSTT, M3 etc.

Thanks cwispy, I only know the R4 card because I have setup 3 of them and had no problems.

Thing is I prefer to send buyers to supporters of this site so if the ace card is better maybe I'll recommend these from yourself or ozchips.

Can a novice use the ace card as easily as the R4 card. I hate having to help everyone set these things up.

Does the D2sun come with wiring instructions or will I have to find them on the net. I have to mod 3 units starting with mine. If I brick that I guess the other 2 wont get done and the kids won't be happy.

I wasnt saying anything about who you send people to. Oz, modsupplier and myself to name a few all sell these things, I was just pointing out that the actual genuine R4 is an old cart that hasnt been updated in 6 months and the ones out there that call themselves R4's and support sdhc cards are all copies and vary in quality greatly. As far as being easy to use, the dstt and acekard are both as simple to use as the R4 in that you copy the menu/os files to the root of the micro sd card and then copy the games into the root of the card or to subfolders and load it into the ds.

The d2sun site is , you will find all the info you need there.

Thanks for all your help and the link. Wow I wasn't aware this was the case with the R4. Luck seems to have been on my side so far.

I was simply suggesting by my comment that I like to give back to the suppliers that happily give their time to this forum.

I know when I had a business I received a lot of support from users of this forum and was grateful for it. A lot of good people hang out here.

    Thanks
