Default VE type diesel injection pump

hi there. is there anyone who has had dealings with the VE type injuction pumps fitted to the toyota lucida 8 seater bus.
my problem is the inbuilt fuel pump does not want to supply enough fuel to allow the motor to rev above 1500 rpm's but if i continue to prime up go the rev's to 4500 plus seems the pump will not pull up enough fuel into the chamber . i replaced the pump due to excessive leaking and replaced it with a import unit which dont leak but refuses to rev above the 1500..help please

Before you read any further i must point out i know bugger all about injected diesels.

One thing i do know is that the injector pump timing must be spot on, if your out a tooth it may be lettin in too little fuel hence the primming increasing the fuel pressure.

    Just my (dumb) thoughts.

import probably has an electric fuel pump in the tank .

try adding one of those square facet 'clicker' pumps in line and see if that helps.

thanks for your thoughts but thats not a problem, trouble is the ve injection pumps have a small vane type unit built into the pump to suck the fuel up into the distribution area and this one does not keep up the volume of fuel needed. but even though i have done diesel work for more years then i care to remember i must admit that these tye of pumps have beat me so far as they were produced by bosch as a cheap mass produced unit

    Hello
Pumps vary in setup questions you must start with does it idle ok and start ok this relates to timing.
Lack of rpm can be governor issue or lack of fuel, usually on the low pressure return side there is a banjo bolt in the outlet pipe, it has a small hole make sure its not fitted to inlet side.
The inlet and outlet banjo's are usually the same size except the return has a very small bleed off hole.
Check that out and see how you go.
    Cheers

hi no not sorted yet as over xmas time to busy at work but so far i have decided that maybe? one of the vanes in the front of the injection pump that sucks the fuel up is sticking causing low volume to the unit but will keep you posted as i go ...cheers...

ring your local toyota dealer... oh no wait, they've never heard of those 'lucidas'
hey why not ring the importer? oh no wait he's gone out of business!.
good luck, with your fix efforts. Sometimes those imported one offs are just somebody else's problems. I hope the fix aint too costly for you.

Maybe the lift pump is not being stroked properly.

the VE type pumps dont have a lift pump only a primer to clear air in the system.. fuel is drawn in from a vacaum pump built into the injection unit

turned out the suction pump in the injector unit has a bypass regulator valve and that had stuck causing excessive low pressure for the injectors
    cheers all
