how do you play DVD movies on a wii?
From what I've read you can but I'm wondering what software people are using? I have homebrew installed and have tried mplayer but cant get it to play. does it support this format and is it the easyest to use?

From what I have read, dont do it, its not a DVD player and isnt supposed to run for long periods, maybe they mean the cooling isnt good enough in the wii to play DVDs... I dont see why it would hurt it.
Yep using Mplayer nor a prob. Try sets everything up for it.
You need to install the correct cios and i think you also need dvdx installed then mplayer will play the movies.
what about with a wiikey v2 how do you do the install for dvd play back?
in the same way as you would with any mod chip.... it is independant of the chip, rather it is depandant upon the wii's firmware... what firmware you got?Originally Posted by swgw

Buy an el-cheapo $40 DVD player to play DVD's. Risking a $250 console just to watch a movie is a bit silly.
Laser coils/circuitry wear out. Gaming consoles are expensive. You do the math.
Yep, if you want to play a dvd, then better play it on a dvd player
