Vista, power options and s/savers

Hi again all. Happy New Year. Here we go, I have a lappy vista no way will it turn off the screen regardless of the settings selected, also no way it will run a screensaver regardless of settings in control panel/power options or display ect bla bla bla. Also have a hp desktop, vista same story. Also have desktop vista, works normal, ie power options and screensaver work normal. As usual, any input appreciated.
