    Default record to MP3 format?

My son has a radio/cd with a USB input but it only accepts MP3 format.
We want to put some of his CD's onto a suitable USB SD or Flash drive so he can plug and play.
I couldnt see anything in Windows media to do MP3's so what programs do we need please?

In Windows Media Player, go to Tools --> Options --> Rip Music & in the drop down box where it says windows media audio, select MP3

From there you just go to the rip section and this will copy the cd's on to your PC where they can be copied off onto the thumbdrive.

Default Right click the rip tab in windows media player

    Then Tools
    Then Options
    Then Rip music tab
Then change Format from Windows Media Audio to Mp3
    Apply
    Then OK
    Hope that helps

Sorry Punxor took me a while to compose it and you beat me to the punch

Fellas, sorry but I dont or cant see a 'TOOLS' option when I open WMP. The best I can find is this is WMP11 dated 2006 so you may be looking at a later version than mine.Across the top I have Library,Rip,Burn,Sync but no Tools.
When I click onto any of them a box does open and options are there and it seems to put you to the same choices.
I did find in the 'RIP files the option to set the format so maybe that is it to burn to.
Presently me and Nero are having a battle burning CD's, it will rip them to a playlist ok and then it goes through the analysing but then it will burn maybe 4 seconds of the first track to a CD then says it is 'Finalizing' the disk and thats it, one dud CD. I can burn a DVD no trouble but it wont burn a CD.
My version of Nero 7 I got direct off line from Nero as I had trouble trying to use a bundled version of Nero so they replaced it with this after I used their 'cleaner' to fully remove the other copy.

You probably have the tool bar hidden...usually there is an arrow just next to the - [minimize] sign top right of media player...click this and all should be good..I have player 10 but 11 should be the same

    Nero:
Some audio cd's have a type of simple copy protection where they have an extra file with the songs to stuff up nero..not sure if this is happening to you.
The best way is to insert the cd, open nero...save tracks...save to .wav format and only select the songs..don't select this other file [if present]. It should then save all your tracks as wav's and nero should be able to burn these easily

    Thanks mandc and everyone,
it was hidden all right but this version just does it differently and it has been so long since I have seen it I didnt remember how to reopen it.
Will this allow me to reformat material thats in the playlist already recorded in WMA to MP3 or do I need to redo and record it to the playlist as an MP3?

I recently uninstalled symantec because it was deleting all my crack files as trojans, virus problems etc.
Avira gives it the all clear and it is a twitchy one also but at least gives you the option to ignore.
Also eset (nod32) security [on another computer] gives it the thumbs up.

I think it is a case of symantec being over cautious.
