You will know when you've missed an emk update...it will not work until it gets a hit.
and that may take a long long time....maybe never.
Is any one able to advise how you know if your card eg a Whitey or a Puxtel / Craptus card is receiving updates - apart from when it fails on you.
I have not been able to get Grey Wolf working but from what I have seen so far this seems to have some nice extras like ECM and EMM but I do not think this means that auto updates are happenning.
This is a bit of a burning question for me - I am learning and I do not believe I have seen this specific question here in this forum before.
Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Once Idea might be to get GW working ??, maybe post your problems in the GW thread, someone might be able to give you a fix.
As for your question, mmmm, you know I'd be inclined to look at it from a slighty different angle............if my card misses an update, how can I fix it myself ??
Logging the stream would give you the EMK commands as they occur, well for 2 outta 3, if your card missed one, you could then send it manually, and all should be good again.
what issues do you have getting GW going ?????
Thanks fandtm666 -
Had another go at Grey Wolf tonight and I now have this working.
I am impressed - It looks like I might consider finding an old laptop with a serial port to put in the corner just to run GW.
Yeah Sure if an update is missed I can simply place the card back into the Hummy or the Pace and wait for it to happen.
In Grey Wolf logs I have ECMs and EMMs being recorded.
Back to my original question - How do I know if card updates are happening?
I know you can telnet.. That will tell you I think. Never done it myself but have read other ppl doing it
if you are using the new GWM then i am lead to believe it does now receive the packets needed to update the card if you are using cccam 2.05 .But as it is still in testing so to speak i would always recommend having at least 1 irdeto box such as a hummy or strong in play so as to make sure.
I have been testing with the hummy connected on odd days and with it turned off on even days only having the dreams connected and the card has not dropped out, but as i said only testing.
checkitout as for a lappy any old thing will do mine is an old dell c610 and just sits in the corner doing nothing else and purrs away happily. With the os if you can lay your hands on 2k or even 2k3 server it is better than xp , though xp is good the server is better
Many Thanks fandtm666
I am using Grey Wolf Ver0.863b.
Is this the latest version and if not do you know what that would be?
peer networking?
pretty sure u can change that though in the sense that even with p2p protocols such as bit torrent. Theres a reg hack/edit to allow more than 10 con-current connections. As windows by default only allowed 5/10 connections.
Would this software be different?
not trying to argue with you guys
just to learn
each to their own mate , people complain that this happens and that happens .All that we can do is advise on what our testing has shown (and is why we can help) and what the author has said what people decide to do afterwards is their choice.
yes there are reg hacks but a clean un-hacked system which was specifically designed is always better but hey thats my opinion isnt it.
Thanks everyone - This is all good and useful info -
Now I am still going back to my original question. How does one know if "card updates" are happening.
In Grey Wolf we can see ECM and EMM messages.
z80 and Mudcrab mentioned something about EMK messages.
I believe this is probably the indicator for card updates.
A google search has shown me that EMK = Encrypted Master Key
Does Grey Wolf show EMK messages or updates ?
How often are EMK messages sent ?
What loggong methods to see EMK messages are available?
my limited experience with Newcs/Evocamd, Newcs/mgcamd, newCs/CCcam and CCcam/Cccam has shown if you can see EMM ticking over in webif or telnet
then card is updated - both monthly updates and even for PPV.
if you can not see emm ticking over - then its call your sub every month.
your mileage may vary
Hey Guys,
just wondering if Newcs Cccam 2.05 is ticking over emm, would CCcam as the server have any difference in the updating, Just asking as getting a lot of pixelation with a ND$ card and Newcs as the server.
thanks

I'm sure someone with better knowledge will jump in and correct me if I have this wrong
So if you set the card log to save, in your card reader option you'll see a box to tick if you want to save the log, now over a period of say a few hours (maybe) you'll probably get a EMK, this may happen every hour even, but a new update might only happen every week or more.
So once you have been logging for a few hours, open the log file, it will be in notepad, then search, ie edit>fine for your HSN, it will show up few times, but what you are looking for is a line something like this.
010100000036CBHHSSNN203094255B8D6B575E40D6C9F35907 6D593C7997A86022484F8E3187A54871BE0D25AD6C2F6933B0 5A656B3547AC39B1DD7340
where HHSSNN is your HSN............the CB just before might be a C3.
So basically after logging for a time, you see a different emk, and the card is still going around 24hours latter, then, you could safely say the update has been recieved ok
OK - So a card that is not getting updates will not show any references to HSN in the card data log?
BTW do we know what the data log stream with the HSN reference is doing - Is this the actual card update?
Now if we do not have access to Grey for doing this card data logging for example I have an Opentel 4000 STB - how does one know if card updates are happening - The obvious is to use the box with a whitey for over a month - I would love to know if there is another way.
