Go to control panel, then network connections, then right click the wireless network icon, then scroll down to properties, then a little window should pop up, choose wireless networks from the top, then on the preffered networks highlight your wireless connection then press properties, now a new little window should pop up with association, in blue you should have wireless network key, here change the authentication to what ever kind of security you have chosen for your connection whether wep, or wpa etc... and then type the key where it says and confirm it, now press ok and see if it works.
woodstock how will i tell if i have DHCP server on or off ?
Aboulaly went to where you said and only have wep that maybe the problem.
You could turn encryption off and use Mac filtering instead. Just add the Mac addresses for the devices that you want to allow to access the network and nothing else can connect.
just found it, its wpa, can change to wep maybe i can do that.?
Yep , try switching to WEP instead. It sounds like the old laptop might be having problems with WPA.
Go in to your modem/routers settings and in the wireless section there should be somewhere to change it.
you might be getting mixed up between wpa-psk and wpa. just do what i previously told you and change the authentication to wpa-psk and then put the key.
Aboulaly i tried to change it but in the drop down it only has wep.
Could it be something like not sp2?
what os are u running mate?
xp
Xp Pro/sp2?
yes but if the onboard wirelss card doesn't have the brains to handle a more secure signal you won't be able to use anything but wep.
you will need to add a PCMIA card intothe mix if you want better secruity.... and most likely better speeds

hey nuckles give us the thinkpad model number I'll see if I can look it up to see what your wireless card is capable of.
or if you just want, change the security on your router to wep.
model is 2373? thats all it said under it. I am not to worried about security because i live on a large block and nobody near can pick it up
u need to update ur os
download this update and it should be fine
update to sp3, get all the latest updates and wpa will magically appear as an option....
