i use dosflash16 for flashing on a iprep bootable usb stick, im assuming that its not going too matter if its 16 or 32?
and is the `probe` used the same as the `spear` that they sell in kits?
Hi all,
This is in follow up to Alphedo's post in the BST section.
I have just made one of these, took about an hour to make and an hour or so to sort out how to flash the drive.
I implemented the following design:
All parts are available from Jaycar and in total are <$5
I used surfboard resin to attach the d-sub connector
I used the leg off a resistor for the probe

I tried to give it some 'edge' so it would sit in the via nicely (not that you can really tell)
I cut a molex connector off a dead pc for the power supply.
In case it is not obvious, the red wire is the power thru the molex connector (5V) and the white wire is the probe.
Disconnecting pin 3 from the dvd drive connector had to be done in order to leave the drive half open. (I am not sure if this applies to everyone or just some cases).
And as per other xbox modding, try and read the key at least 3 times to ensure you are getting a consistant response.
What I found:
I found jungle flasher useful for retrieving the key, but not so good for flashing. What I did was to retreive the key with it, modify the ixtreme1.5 firmware as per the following tutorial and then did the flashing in dosflash32 as the mtkflash32 part of jungleflasher did not work so well (it would not report back the status of my drive correctly.)
If anyone needs any help, just ask.

so whats the probe made out of? a piece of metal thats insulated where i hold it or does that not matter.
the probe is just a wire with the leg of a resistor soldered on as said in the main post
