Default Alt power location for Modbo 4.0 1.99?

I believe that the Modbo 4.0 1.99 chips need a little more power to get them to fire up on backups. Does anyone happen to have preferable locations to pick up the required power?

    Thanks

What model console, And what Mobo number Cwispy? Ive been using Modbo 4.0s for a long time and found them to be excellent, Havent had the need for another location for power as yet, Ive always just followed the diag,s and havent had a problem, What makes you think that the 1.99s might be different mate?

I have also been using the modbo 4.0 for a long time and they have been great, but the last lot that I bought came and have 1.99 written on them instead of 1.93 like all the ones for years before that. After installing them into a v9, v14-v16's not one of them will load backups of ps2 games, but will work fine on original disks. When I have asked I was told that there is an alt power and also an alt Y location for these new Modbo 4.0's with 1.99 written on them.

You can get into the matrix screen to change the options etc so you know the chip is on, but it is meant to need a little bit more in the way of power to load copies up.

yeah it is a turd mate ,
otlo , no sorry mate , what cwispy describes is happening , I find it most in 79002 machines .
You get the screen and can access options however it does not play games , changing the power can work fine .
Mate just find TH4000 and attach the pwr wire to it (bottom of board , bottom right handside just above controller ports on late models, if needed you can piggyback pwr wires between ps14 and th4000 with no adverse affects . I do not need to mention you use a thicker gnd

Thanks Oz. I will give that a go. Im sure it will work out. The v9 I was lucky with, I found an old Duo2 in the drawer unopened, so used that and the others I had some used 1.93's which were ok and had come out of dead machines that had been ratted for parts. Next one that comes in, I will now know how to get these buggers working on.

It is really strange how the 1.93's worked perfectly though, and then the 1.99 has this issue.

Any of you guys had problems with 1.99 in SCPH 90002 version 2 boards?

They boot backups OK but they will not play DVD region free. Confirmed in 2 units so far. SCPH 90002 version 1 works fine BTW, its only the version 2 that seems to have issues with booting DVD videos.

I have the mobo number at the workshop, but its SCPH90002 where u do not have to solder the Y point directly to the controller

I havnt had the pleasure of installing a 1.99 in a 90002 as yet. I was lucky to have a 1.93 left last time I did one. Its a shame these chips are becoming so picky. I have read elsewhere that some are downgrading to firmware 1.93 to overcome some of these issues, but thats not something I have tried as yet.

for the record the model of the main board I am talking about is GH-071-42, all the new ones have them. For the most part its ok because most people just want to play backups but I was not even aware of the problem till a customer complained because he wanted to use it as a portable DVD player for his kids as well as a PS2 in his caravan. U can get it to boot DVDs buy disabling the chip and it will play DVD backups but it will not play out of region DVD. I have not tried a out of region game yet but next time I mod one I will try, it did not occur to me to try it since it booted backup games ok.

    Better late than never but......
    1) The power issue is fact...i pulled my hair out trying to work it out. I think only on v12,13 & 14 you need to use another 3.3V source.I use the one near where the 3 resistors are in parallel(one side is gnd & the other is 3.3V), its a common config amongst many versions of ps2.

2)Done many of the v2 of the 90002 'nsdn' but never test it on other region DVD's...i will the next time i get one in but i'd say your probably correct. I have also noticed its very difficult to get a psx game to load on slimlines of any version, thick ps2 seems ok though(not that i get many these days).

    V1.93 was the best IMO

Hi Ljay, thanks for the heads up on the power issue, I will try that next time I do a V12 13 etc, I had gone to a 750 for these.

I tried a 1.93 in a 90002 V2 and the dvd player still does not work properly. I wonder if anyone will bother fixing it. Still I tried out of region game and they work fine.

    Hey nsdn,

I finally got around to testing a 90K (Gh071-42) slim, & yep it struggles to play any DVD movie, other region or not...keeps coming up to browser screen with gold disk symbol, press x & same again. Even tried changing config to boot to DVDX mode, same result.

Did you guys end up working out a solution to this problem?
I was doing a bit of research and some people have mentioned this problem occurs also when the Y point isn't attached correctly.

Ive got 2 of these to get done tonight.
    Both 90002 with modbo 4.0 v1.99

Ozchips, the alt power location you mentioned is it the one found in this diagram

    thanks in advance

Depends on which version of the 90K2 slim.....the 3rd revision mobo(Gh072 i think) wont work on a V1.99, but works well on V1.93
