    Default DM600 Recording Glitches

    Hi,

I have found that recordings on the internal HDD of a DM600 have occassional glitches/pixelations every 10 to 20 minutes and it is annoying me as I hoped recording would be flawless on a DM600 with an internal HDD.

As described in another thread, I am using the DM600 as a server for a DM500 client connected wirelessly to my router with an WAP bridge (CCCam server and client). I thought that this may be the cause (as z80 had reservations about using wireless for the client), and I tested a recording with the DM500 and WAP turned off, but I still got the glitches. Should I also have commented out the F line in the DM600 to ensure that absolutely no sharing was occuring or trying to occur?

I am using PLi Jade and my CCCam.cfg files are -
    Server
    F: user pass 1 0 0 {0:0:1}
    Client
    C: ServerIP 12000 user pass

Some things I will test next are -

    (1) Making the DM500 the server to see if this reduces CPU stress on the DM600 so it can concentrate on recording only.

    (2) Fiddling with the DM600 HDD settings (sleep time and loudness) to see if this makes a difference.

    (3) Changing my image to see if this makes a difference.

Has anyone got any other tests or ideas on how I can fix this?

I'd try option 1 if I were you. I have found Jade to be very good on my 600. No pops or glitches and it's a clone but you wouldn't know it.

I had a 600 clone with a 250 gig drive in it with no probs. Only sold it because the missus didnt like the big remote control. We now back on the good old 500.

I would go option 1) but would also reflash it with a flash erase first and then jump Jade on it.

Thanks guys, I'll try your suggestions.

Before reflashing, I'll switch CCCam configurations between the two boxes to see what happens - need to find a window of time when the good lady wife is not watching TV

PS. I like the big remote myself, and my wife is used to it now; although we use the small one when we use the DM500 in the kitchen.

is this free to air, NDS or irdeto channels? if it's NDS, do you get the glitches recording an FTA channel?

    Allstarnz,

I have a blue Poxtel card in the internal slot of the DM600, so all recordings are NDS. I did an SBS recording via the DM, but I assume this will not be FTA, but reallly an NDS encrypted FTA channel. This recording had glitches as well.

I normally don't record (or even watch) the FTA EXPO or shopping channels (what a waste of transponder bandwidth), so I don't know how it would go with recording a FTA feed off the satellite. Probably something else I can try.

Just a quick follow-up. Thanks for your feedback guys.

I swapped the CCcam client and server between my DM600 and DM500, and it seems to have fixed the recording glitches (watched about 25 minutes of a test recording).

For some reason, my DM600 had trouble recording and serving at the same time. Not sure why though. Have you guys with DM600s also used it as a server for sharing?

Also, on another matter, every now and then, but rarely I hear a high pitch squeal in the audio on recordings. When I rewind and go through the same spot, the audio is fine so it is not the recording. I think I read somewhere that this may be related to the power supply. Anyone else had this happen?

i get this on my DM500, haven't been able to fix it, but as I don't use the sound too much on that box, I can't be bothered any more.

a dm500 and 600 have the same cpu...a crappy one.

expecting it to serve and record?.....nah....

record from a client to a network share works for me....
