Default Web X via Dreambox Web Interface

Can someone please explain what "Web X TV" does in the Dreambox web interface.

It looks interesting and every time I click on it I usually get a notice about a plugin needed (Firefox) but never find it to download.

If this is a feature that can be used what do I need to get this going e.g. finding the right plugin etc

Install VLC - ensure Mozilla plugin and active X are ticked when installing.
PLI recommend VLC 8.6I, though you may have to try a few different versions - 8.6c was the only version which seemed to work for me.

webxtv allows you to watch sat-tv on your pc - it streams it from the dbox.

    I personally prefer dreamview.

I assume your using PLI? Apparently it's pretty bullet proof......rofl.

in the top right of the webpage, there is something like this

    vpid:

which will open a file in VLC if it's set up right. Use this, works well.

I use the method allstarnz mentioned. It works well for me, even with the latest version of vlc.

both vpid or web-x-tv methods work fine
if you try what rhcp suggests (install VLC with mozilla plugin ticked)
you will find that web-x-tv gives a little extra control

Thanks - I am working through this like what RHCP has noted.

The VLC version I have found is 0.9.8a (obviously not 8.6c).

Done the install and ticked "install plugin" and "active x"

Now all I get is "video is loading" ...??

I will try looking for the 8.6c version. BTW I am using/testing with PLI (Gemini on other boxes)

did not do a good job of reading the PLi wiki did you - as I put there for web-x-tv use 0.8.6i not 9.x

You will find this 0.8.6i version in the VLC ftp archives here on this link and suggest you dload the .exe file as it is the installer unless you know what to do with the others in there

At the bottom of the download page (location) there is a link to an FTP server containing older versions of VLC.

The other day i upgraded to jade and tried a heap of different VLC versions on two computers and nothing seemed to work properly.

Reflashed the box today and its working a treat, on both 9.8a and 8.6c. Maybe try this as a last resort.

Yes ...I know it was not VLC 8.6 - 9.8 was the first I found .. loaded it anyway to see what would happen.

I have since loaded 8.6 and it is working a treat. Interesting how it seems to want a particular version.

Thanks muchly - more playtime now

I have Pli-jade in Dm500s, I had an older ver of VLC but when i installed it, i didnt install with all the options, ie activeX etc ticked. So I just downloaded the lastest VLC ( had to uninstall old ver first ) then re-install the new ver of Vlc. In the DM500 webinterface menu I had to select a port of 80. Then it all worked first go !!
    Sorry for the late reply.
