    Default Ocean Maps with IGO8

I have just booked an Australian/New Zealand cruise and would like my GPS to show me where we are when at sea and just off the coast, and show the coast line.

Are there maps available for IGO8 (or TomTom) to do this?

I have a generic GPS running mapping software off the SD card.

    Thanks

    Don

My suggestion would be to have a look at OziCE....but there is a fair bit to it if you haven't played with it before & ozice is not free but does have a demo mode.

These are the limitations of the Evaluation version.

Moving map mode (communication with the GPS) will only remain active for 20 mins each time OziExplorerCE is run and then 10 mins after that (until restarted). At the end of these times a dialog will be displayed and communication will be deactivated.
A watermark using the text "Demo Version" will be drawn onto the map.
Other than for the restrictions mentioned above, the evaluation version works exactly the same as the purchased version.

Its a raster mapping program rather than a routing program like IGO8. So basically you supply a series of pictures as calibrated maps & it plots you location on those maps.

By default OziCE comes with a world map - which has very little detail but it will show you where you are.

You can load your own more detailed maps (pictures such as jpgs & tiffs) once they have been calibrated & converted to the format required by ozice - there is a free tool to do that on the ozi site, but the calibration required the windows version of oziexplorer.

try the Garmin software and use the Bluechart marine maps available around the place, you can load them to your device using the Garmin Mapsource software
the "Bluechard" maps will show up in the garmin city navigator software(appears and works on my Nuvi260 also) and also shows the navigation markers etc.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Can you run the Garmin software on a generic GPS running Win CE 5?

If so, would it be Garmin XT ?

I have seen reference to Garmin Mobile XT but I assume that is the version that runs on mobile phones.

Any pointers to where I can find the software and installation instructions?

    Many thanks,

    Don

check previous threads or head over the the PPCWarez site
There was a link to the Garmin web page to download the XT software
(free download apparently, I certainly had no trouble getting it)

I have it running with city navigator NT 2009 map
    works a treat
