    Default 12volt to 5volt converter

I have to make a voltage converter to drop from car voltage ( 12 volt ) down to 5 volt to operate some powered gear. I intend to use just a 7805 but do I need to add any other protection inside the cigarette lighter plug (not much room in there)

How much current does the device you want to power draw?
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

Yep,I should have mentioned that, its one of the cheap GPS's so should be about 50-100ma so heat should not be a problem. I'm putting it on my motorcycle and thats using the small german type plugs.

Probably the simplest idea for what you want to do.
