Hi guys,
Just wondering what advantages the Jaycar smartcard kit has over one, say from Sattronics or another manufacture??
Thanks

Technically i am not sure, but the fun or challenge of building it, is interesting.
If thats your thing.
thanks guys, the building of it is not a problem as I have 15yrs or so as a electronics tech. Just wondering about the technical spec's.
The JayCar reader/programmer is capable of making:
1. a Goldie for aurora
2. a Silver for aurora
3. an Emerald for Aurora
it is also capable of Programing many other PIC & Eeprom based smart cards, used as Access Cards on doors, or at carwashes etc....
It cannot program Fun Cards,
The Advantage of a Jaycar Programmer is that there are many posts on this Forum about its construction & its use to make a Goldie or Silver Card for Aurora,
Some of the Card readers/ programmers at Sattronics cannot program the PIC, (be careful)
Some other Programmers are the Elvis, USB Infinity, & Cas 3 to name a few,
My advice to you is to do some searches, & some reading on this topic as most questions have been asked & answered before,
Good Luck

Thanks guys for all you help and references.

In addition to programming blank PIC cards (ie gold, silver, emerald) it can also host - ie operate and communicate with - any working smartcard using phoenix mode. ie it can connect a smartcard's service to any device that supports a phoenix interface (eg PC, Dreambox or whatever). In that respect it's just like any other phoenix interface, except it's easy to modify with a custom crystal if you wanted to overclock your card for some reason. Some commercially made ones can't easily be modified in that way, especially those that present their serial device via USB (because they typically derive the card clock from a single crystal which also generates their USB timebase which cannot be changed).
