    Default UBI Receiver

Is anybody using a non-UBI supplied receiver to get UBI-World? That company's tech support says only the Humax or UEC boxes they sell will succesfully receive their signal.
However, the only difference between these two UBI-supplied receivers and others on the market seems to be the UBI logo on the remote!
Am I being unkind in thinking UBI is not being completely honest here and is really interested in selling receivers - as well as subscriptions?
Another question. Would UBI sell its service to a customer not using a UBI-supplied receiver?

    Thanks

    G'Day Cobber,
Yes, you're right, that dishonest spiel is poppycock.
I think they do, but don't quote me.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".........
    PS:
    Seems they do have separate subscription, BUT;
Only the following UBI branded decoder boxes, models UEC DSD 990 or Humax IR-ACE II can be used to receive UBI WORLD TV services.

If you already own a UBI decoder box in good working order and would like to resubscribe to UBI, then you don’t need to purchase a new one.

Please note a decoder box associated to an existing contract or a terminated contract with an outstanding amount can not be used to create a new subscription contract.

Call UBI on 1300 400 800 to find out more about using an existing decoder box.

i subscribed to UBI a few weeks back HAD to buy their stb (humax). When I received it though I put the sub into my Octagon 918 and rang to activate the card... Its been working fine ever since.

I now have a brand new unused UBI decoder sitting in its box though.

    G'Day Frank,
Thought you may be able to use this, or any others with a UBI Humax.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".......

Sorry about that. I plead senile dementia, what's your excuse.

    Thanks all for the info.
Seems that if I want UBI, I have also to agree to being ripped off!
Or maybe I should look at C Band, although I'd have a hard time convincing my local council to agree to a 2-meter dish.

The Portuguese service - RTPI and SIC.

RTPI is available on AsiaSat-2. Not much other Portuguese programming though ... which is why I looked at UBI.

    Back to the drawing board.

I've been told the FTA function on those boxes has been removed not sure what can be done about restoring it... the software on it has been customised to UBI specs

    There are several versions of the Humax IR-Ace - i.e. IR-Ace M, IR-Ace II, IR-CI Ace, etc.

    Which do you have?

sciteq say that due to having licensed irdeto inside loaders & firmware will be unavailble .

Asiasat 2 was replaced with asiasat 5 and now is a stronger signal I have heard that you can now pick it up with a 1.2m offset. A member 'orbit' said he has had pics on a 90cm offset:

I'm pretty sure there is a channel from Brazil on Asiasat 5 called Record.

    Cheers,
    Nando.
