    Default Telstra ADSL2 speeds

I am interested in hearing from other members on Telstra's ADSL2 network in regards to what download/upload speed they get and their distance from their exchange.

Current speed test on Aanet 8000/384 on laptop connecting wirelessly to modem/router. I am about 3.5km's from my exchange.

Yours is an 8mb 384K upload system? Usually you get better uploads with higher downloads I would have thought you get something like 8mb down 1mb up? Not sure what other ADSL operators provide.

Can you run some tsts say to HK, San Jose, Yokohama, Manila, Perth and other places around Asia? I'd like to see what downloads uploads your are getting.

These are my speeds on my 10mb down 2mb up.

8000 Up , 384 Down. This is the standard maximum ADSL1 speed in Australia.

For those interested, here is results for Next G 7.2 Wireless, 550kbps - 3.0Mbps download/ up to 1.3Mbps uplink.

About 5km from tower, not in a capital city, so would be faster there.
For some reason says I'm in Brisbane, which is incorrect.

I am also about 3km from exchange. What I find surprising is your fast downloads speeds but slow upload speeds... hmmmm

ADSL2+ (Annex A, the most common type) specs are 24000/1000 kbps, hence the 'slow' upload speeds.
Unless you can get Annex M which sacrifices download speed for uploads. I think the max upload then is 3000 kbps.

vk6xlr and hoe , have you had 8000/384 on your line before ? If so , any idea what you were getting ? I know its all unlikely to affect what I get , just curious. Its great that we can now finally get access to ADSL2 , even if it is Telstras.

Yep, was on 8000/384 until a month ago. Speed attained was the maximum.

That is dreadful speed....uploads so slow, and nowhere near the maximum.

Telstra have informed Internode that I cannot get ADSL2.

I might apply directly to Telstra and if they connect me I will put in a complaint to the TIO.

That might cost you money, if you sign up on contract and then rely on a TIO decision to annull it.

Just see if the online process lets you all the way through...that is enough ammo for a complaint regarding anti-competitive behaviour.

(Which I suspect is your the point you seek to make...)

There is also a very good chance that ADSL2 may not be that much faster......

According to Telstra's web site , a check on my number shows that ADSL2 is available to me. They pulled the same stunt with ADSL1 when it came out , every company I signed up with got the no go message from Telstra. In the end I signed up with Telstra , got connected , then rang them up and asked how the hell am I connected if you claim its not available to me through other companies ?

In the end they saw the error of their ways , though they did send me a bill that they promised they wouldnt. That involved a monthly phone call to tell them how stupid and incompetent they were. After 8 months they stopped sending them.

I connect at 8160/384 Kbps on ADSL1 and my modem claims : Attainable Line Rate 12256 Kb so if it will go a third faster I will be happy with that.
