    Default New need some advice.

Hi every one im completly new to sat tv but did have Galaxy meany years ago now for a year or so untill they went broke.

We have had optus but now have foxtel and im so tierd of the monthly bill that is IMO way over pricet.

Im thinking about going sat tv and getting it intalled as im first to admiti its best getting people in that know there stuff than me trying to do it and makeing a mess of it .

I wanted to ask you all that have Sat tv what type of content can i expect.

Is it possible to get HD picture.

Who would be a good person / or company in sydney to be looking at to purchase what i need and then have it installed.

Sorry if i sound like a complet newbie but i am and i need to start some were i think joining a site and community like this is the first and best step i needed to take .

Hiya global88 thanks for the replie.

I looket at getting selec Tv but they dont offer a package like say optus or foxtel were you say pay an extra $15 a month to have an extra set top box to a diffrent tv .

With Selec Tv if you want to have 2 tv outlets you need to open 2 acounts and it would still coast us here $102 a month ruffly then i would need to add the coast of the Equipment.

With foxtel we pay more a month but we get a lot more in like you get more movie stations / comedy/ Sci/Fic and Sports you wont get on Selec Tv.

Yep agree with your statement about channel selection.
$29.95 per month x2 is less than $60 a month and no contracts. Your not locked.

At my house ive split the av output so my one sat unit works on 2 tv's.
Having said that i have to watch the same program on both tv's.

Looks like its Foxtel for you....

    Umm, you need the Greek?

How about, SelecTV $36 (incl. Great TV & Discovery Pack).

    A dish bearing a 2 or 3-way LNB holder.
So, one of the LNB's would be set to say Optus D2 for ERT, the free to air Greek TV station, and a whole host of other FTA's such as Press TV, Russia Today. You'd do an FTA 'Network Search' from the 12706 detail:-

The other LNB set to Intelsat 8(ku) for Select TV.

Hiya Keepleft well i need to set it up for 2 diffrent TVs ones for my dad who likes to watch live news a few other curent affair type shows on antena he also likes National Geographic Channel /Nat Geo Adventure so there alone i need Great TV - 22 channels for $29.95 then i need Greek - 5 channels for $24.95 .

Dad also likes to watch Discovery - Animal Planet / Discovery - Science so i would need to add + Discovery Pack - 4 channels for $5.95 a month .

Then the 2nd TV i would like all but the greek and with select TV you cant pay an extra cost to have a 2nd outlet like you do with optus/foxtel i need to open a new acount so costs start to get up there.

For my dad id be happy to set up selecTV and for the 2nd TV if i could get movies and a few doocumentry stations for free id be more than happy but im starting to relise it dont work that way.

Re above - Press TV and Russia Today are great for news and documentaries, the latter in particular to RT. Rarely any fta movies, you will find a few on foreign stations on C band et al.

Some would go for one card, say Great TV+Discovery Pack = $36/pm, plus in your case, the Greek package = $25 for say a total of $61/month.

You could use a so called 'card splitter', a device which shares the sub card between decoders simultaneously. But, new sub cards are revision 5.3 designed to prevent such nasty evil doomsday activities, so I don't know if that works here or with older hard wired units!

    Of course, you could pay the $61/pm for your dad, and pick up a second decoder for yourself;

    You'd be up for $96/month.

If your dad can live with just ERT (FTA) and say a few other various FTA's on D2 then great! You could then grab that decoder above for yourself for Selects $36/pm max english pack! Ways and means to profile your installation, but how much you spend is up to your of course. Me, hey - I throw lots at my personal install, a few hundred - I think I'm worth it! :-) Show him the ERT website.
