Default LPG and Supercharged Mitsubishi 380.

Had a one on one meeting with Alan Heapy, the owner of Team Ralliart last Friday.
We discussed the viability of an LPG/Supercharged Mitsubishi 380.

Have offered one of mine as a prototype candidate....a molten red GT.

This week Impco in Dandenong are looking at Alan's TMR380 to see what is involved in terms of plumbing, ecu mapping etc.

Should find out late this week or next week on whether she's a goer or not.

Hoping for around 300kw without any engine mods whatsoever.

    Oooohhhh Ahhhh Now ware talking.

If this goes ahead its going to be technically very, very interesting.

LPG has the capacity to produce more HP, whats going to be interesting is the way they go about it.

    Direct injection?

    More boost?

What are they going to do about fuel delivery, will they need a special tank with 2 outlets and 2 lines to flow enough gas or does direct injection use a little less gas and therefore one large outlet/line be enough?

Piggy back ecu or a chip for the old one?

Different timing advance graphs when on petrol or gas?

Get heaps of pics/technical info where possible Zed.

Its how they get around the boost side of things if injecting into the pressurized side thats got my attention. Most are old fashioned draw through gas rings from the vacuum side, i doubt they would bother putting such a out of date system in, they must be talking direct injection into the pressurized side of things.

Im going to enjoy this if you go ahead with it.

The car already has the Impco Sequent56 system.

They need to make it work with that bit.....

Impco in Dandenong told TMR that it's all fine while i was there.

So it's a done deal except for the dollars and a few bits of plumbing.

They reckon that they have to relocate a solenoid near the firewall....

Pffft, just wiser with the $ and only stoppable when they nail the coffin. LOL

Sounds good Zed, supercharged conversion job?

Tip, TC (Traction control) always on.

Actually come to think about it, i dont think they can use the TC with LPG.

Does your traction control (if fitted) work with your current LPG setup Zed?

May be they can get it to work on sequential, im unsure.

    Mate....it's not a Holden/Ford....of course TC works....perfectly...

I will always leave it on anyway...this one will not have the 19in tyres.
I only want it to go hard in a straight line ocassionally...

Yeah the conversion is a supercharger, not an LPG conversion....this particular 380 already has factory gas....sorry, should have been clearer.

I'll leave the other red beast running on 98 premium....

Im picturing 300+KW on the red one in a short time....

Maybe ask what the pulley conversion kit costs fitted just before you sign a cheque, you may get a better deal before putting ink to paper.

Torque steer????, i get that all the time in 4WD mode (look at avatar and insert psychiatric laugh)

Got the email that Impco went to TMR and have had a look and ....it's a green light.

Only six small relocation holes required for some injection support solenoids etc.

Around the 24th Of Feb is the plan.

will have side by side pics of before and after...

Cost $6200. inc GST. (it will have a piggy back ecu as well)

$6200 sounds good considering theres a aftermarket piggyback ECU.

Last i looked $1500+ for the adjustable ECU....minimum.

A pulley kit on the red TRM380 would never be spotted by a dealer.

The conversion on the Red GT would set of alarm bells for the slightest fault.

I can picture just about any fault being blamed on the supercharger, or the conversion.

Food for thought, dont want to spoil the party though.

Looks like the valve springs have to be changed for 300Kw.

So about 250 is the limit with no engine mods whatsoever, just pulley and ECU remap.

guess that will have to do for an every day machine on LPG...

warranty will be fine, permission from Mitsi will be there I am led to believe.

The valve springs can be changed without removing the heads.

The valve covers and spark plugs need to be removed, they place a fitting into your sparkplug hole and run compressed air into the cylinder to keep the valves closed via the compressed air. Then the springs can be removed without taking the heads off.

Its only the inlet valves due to the boost. Im surprised such little boost could cause valve float....

Kick their butts a little Zed, its not such a big thing, they just dont want to tell you it can be done without major effort.

Mention compressed air and not removing the heads, see their reaction.

The last V6 Magna company car we had needed new valve seals, the mechanic replaced new seals (he needed to remove all the valve springs to do it), and charged $350 from memory, parts included.

Then again 250Kw is also a lot of fun.

I wonder if they had a little rethink after hearing the word "warranty".

mate, you are impressing me with your knowledge every time you post.

Might settle for 250 though mate...

After all it may be even better on LPG octane...???

(fact is they haven't done one before, and neither have Impco, and I think they are secretly looking forward to having some fun with it)

also...I gotta be careful here, the missus borrows my car sometimes and don't want here to know how much I spend on my toys...LOL

As it is she's gunna think there's a funny noise under the bonnet...will get by with loose fan belt excuse there i think...

(she don't know about the red one...it's in the shed she never goes in.....shhhhhh! )
