gigabit wired lan problem

i have gigabit lan in my home here, linked between my server(windows 2000 advanced server) and windows xp,this pc,
originaly, from this pc, to the server was faster than from server to xp, why mite that be? both cables are cat5e 1 is about1 meter long, other is about 20 m long,?

now, the latest problem, possibly relating to,
windows did an update,of several,100's of updates, since then, the gigabit wond stay connected, just connects, disconects connects,etc. but if i force it to do 100 duplex, it works fine on 100,
ive tryed putting the driver from cd back in,but it keeps telling me its the same one,or better, ive removed the card,and put in a new pci slot,making pc think its a new card,same
so, im lost,
i use gigabit for file transfer, and particularly video streaming over the lan, so it needs the speed,

any ideas?

what are you connecting it to? maybe you can log into your switch if your using one and set the port to 1gig instead of auto?

also are the cables professionally made ones or are they ones you made or a mate has made?

could be a dodgy cable / connector.

this was the case with one of my cables, everything was fine for months then just died in the arse, turned out to be a cable

its connected to a gigabit switch, just a home use type, not an industrial,

cable is profesionaly made,and have tried several ones,including one i made
professionaly made ones are cat6,my ones are only cat5e

i also have tryed it on the other pc, works fine on that one,so cables fine and i swaped ports to the same as the working pc is,

hmm stange one then mate - looks something with the card / os then. the only wayto confirm that is to use a cross over cable and test thay way. if it's still slow there then it's time to roll back all those patces or find the manufacture and modle of your card and grab the latest drivers and force them on. ( be the first thing after the corssover i'd try )

how do i make a gigabit compatible cross-over cable? all pc shops say there not compatible with gigabit because gigabit uses all 8 wires while 100 only uses 4
if i new cross-over was possible on gigabit, i would have done ages ago..
whats the pin to pin for gigabit cross-over?

hmm new problem.. ok, i tryed one of these regular cables on the auto negotiate,
now i got the blue screen of death!!!
coming up with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
all these numbers,
and down bottom it saus dumping physical memory to disk and number is rising
hmm faulty card?

to help diagnose the code you can go here
and to read the mini dump file to try and point you in the right direction of the cause go to

try going to the manufactures website and grabbing the latest driver. or force the install of the old origional one you had. go to the card update drive select advanced and click on have disk select the ini file and select ur card then next and it should loa your old driver back on.

well i think i solved the prob... i put new card in there, all up n running, full spede too, no dump files..but hmm reading dump files...thatl be handy to know, thanks all for ur help
