    Default New need advise thanks

Hi all and thanks for any responses I get.

I rent a place that is cabled for Austar. I am not sure of the size of the dish. The owner lives above me and has Austar operational so I presume the setup is fine and points at Optus C1? I have an outlet for an additional receiver in my part of the house.

I am hoping that someone can help me as to whether I can do the following...
I would like to setup my computer with a satellite PCI card (to be decided based on advice) and patch/cable to the outlet so that I can receive the Free to Air stuff that is available on Optus C1 AURORA. I believe I will need to purchase a card as well?

Can anyone advise if I am on the right track.

    cheers
    Al

Yes. As long as it's a true satellite outlet, an irdeto enabled receiver and Aurora card will get you at least ABC, SBS, Aljazeera, NITV, Expo shopping channel and some radio stations.

Depending on your location there may be few commercial stations on offer?

    Where do you live?

I was told that I could get/rent a second Austar box for my part of the house, would that make it a "true satellite outlet"?

Are you able to recomend a PCI Satellite Card or a STB with network output so I can record (PVR) to my computers HDD that is "Irdeto Enabled".

Also I am a newbie I have no idea where to purchase the Aurora Card, but I am sure it would not be too hard. I live in southern NSW and I am in the licence (yellow) area according to this map

Thanks once again for any responses

I think for a small fee per month, the owner that lives above you can get a extra second box and card that could be run in your room.
You could try talking to him and see how he feels about it.

I do not want PayTV or pay a monthly fee so not an option at this residence.

    Can anyone help me with a guide to the equipment I need. I was thinking the following;

Dreambox DM500S (as this can be networked so I can use my PC as a PVR)
Optus Aurora Card (Think this is the card I need)
Irdeto Cam 2.26 (Not sure if I need this???)

    Any advice is appreciated.

if you are going to use the same satalite dish that is servicing your owners upstairs austar to view aroura then you are in trouble if it does not have a dual lnb.

The main austar channels are on horizontal and the aurora is on vertical so unless there is a dual lnb running into a multi switch you will not get it unless they are watching a ppv program which are sent down on vertical

You won't need the cam becasue the DM has an embedded slot for the card. You could even survive not getting an Aurora card for the moment as there are Irdeto 1 keys files floating around that you could use with your box.

fandtm666 comments below are valid. Check and see if the LNB is a dual output. You should see 2 cables connected to it.

I checked the LNB and it has two cables connected to it.
I have purchased a Dreambox DM500s Satellite Receiver, waiting delivery, so I may need further help from you guys.
Thanks for your help so far.

    cheers
