DHCP error?

I have two computers on a home nettwork sharig and Internet connection which is split by a hub. the problem is only on one of the computers. The computer is automatically generating and IP adress for itself and then also using that same IP for the default gateway. I have browsed the internet and found that this could be because the computer isnt talking with the DHCP part of the modem, they suggest what could be the error but dont say how i can fix it, Help plz

Wel i fixed it, all i did was update the NIC's driver and it went, still dont know what the problem was but its working fine now.
