    I just got this email

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT BETA EXPIRATION DATE

Thanks again for your help in testing the Windows 7 Beta.

We’re sending this mail to remind you that Windows 7 Release candidate is available and to make sure you plan ahead for when the Beta expires on August 1, 2009. On June 1, 2009, the PC you’re using to test the Beta will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will send you a notice a couple of weeks in advance, and that’d be the ideal time to rebuild your test PC with a non-expired version of Windows, such as the RC or Windows Vista. This will be a clean installation, so be ready to reinstall your programs and data. (Learn more about installing Windows.)

So, if you haven’t already done so, we highly recommend that you download and install the RC from one of the following sites today:
    - Developers

    - IT Pros/Microsoft Partners

    - Tech Enthusiasts/Consumers

IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 7 Beta you’ll need to back up your data (preferably on an external device) and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. After installing Windows 7, you will need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help with the installation process, please see the Installation Instructions.

If you have questions or need help installing the RC, you can get help with your Windows 7 questions at

There’s another expiration date you need to keep in mind: Windows 7 RC will expire on June 1, 2010, and you’ll need to either upgrade to the final release of Windows 7 or a prior version of Windows before then. (We‘ll send you another reminder as this date approaches.)

Thanks again for your interest in Windows 7 and for your help in finishing this product!

Anyone noticed that the RC runs slower than the Beta 7000?

Just installed it and it is considerably slower to open basic stuff like explorer. A few seconds delay.

Best feature in my mind is the snap to screen. Allows you to snap 2 windows to 1 screen for dual browsing etc... Just move the window to the top left hand corner, and it snaps to half the screen. Do the same to the right hand corner with another window and instant dual screen.

Other wank featue i found is if you have a shite load of small windows opened and you want to just view one. Usual way is to minimise to desktop and then reopen the window you want. In 7, just select the window you want at the top and shake your mouse. All other windows minimise.

A ways to go in my mind. But its a start.

I,ve been trialling the RC version since it came out earlier this month .
I find it not as resource hungry as Vista, has some new features, but I need more use and time to convince me its more user friendly than XP.

Obviously Microsoft have to keep coming up with different systems as there's no sales & profit growth for them if everyone stays with XP forever, but unless its LOTS better, who is going to change??

    G'day
any one with a dual core PC and 2 GB of RAM, go for the 64 bit version, great for video encoding and other graphic complex tasks.
every thing is working fine on the 64 bit one, even VNC, networking and printers sharing are less hassle that vista.
best of all a free thing form MS( for a limited time though).
haven't test any games yet, but you can use the compatibility mode with XP to run any software that doesn't work under windows 7.
    cheers.

no luck so far, trying to install Windows 7 in Virtual PC,

it comes to the point of extracting files & doesn't get above 0%....

left it overnight, but still no go,

Installs no problem on a normal PC (& not resource hungry either)

I downloaded the official release from Microsoft and I am running it on my laptop in a VMware VM. I have to say I am impressed. So much so, in fact, that my next system I build for myself will dual boot Sabayon 4.1 KDE and Windows 7, both 64-bit.

This is it for Microsoft I believe. With the current rise of Mac and the fact that average Joe has heard of Linux and isn't afraid to try it, M$ cannot afford another Vista. If 7 flops, in this financial situation world wide, even the mighty Microsoft could be put in a very tricky position. I truly believe that in 10 years time we'll be talking about Windows 7 and how it saved Microsoft from destruction.

what i find a pain in the ass with windows 7 the fact that their is a 2 minute delay in which a webpage shows up, same thing with firefox i dont understand that, boot into linux or windows vista and the page shows up almost instantly, apart from the loading which doesnt take long i hope they fix that issue as a few mates have noticed it as well

I installed 7260 in a machine to have a look , first impressions I love it!!

Problem is the anti virus software , what are you guys using ??
I tried CA Security and it found thousands of virus's , so installed one of the recommended AV programs Panda , let it run for about an hour and it flagged about 1200 files as virus's and off course after reboot it's dead.

Anyone tried running with anti virus program ?
