PSP wont update Memory card error

I sn trying to update my PSP Firmware from version 3.71 to 5.03 but everytime I attemot to do the update I get an error.

"the memory stick could no be read. if you cancel , you may not be able to start the psp system.check that the memory stick is correctly inserted and then press the x button.

I have tried two differnt memory sticks and reformated as per the instructions but still no joy.

The PSP was purchased in Singapore and had hacked software on it I believe.

I have tried goung from 3.90 firmware but still no luck. Has anyone any ideas or suggestions, We need the update to play some of the later games,

Further investigations seem to indicate this is not soley a Memory read error as I get the same error when doing an update from a game but it says that it can not read the disk.

it looks as though this specific PSP is locked to version 3.71 M33-2 which I suspect is hacked firmeware.

Any ideas in how to restore or reload factory firmware

Yes M-2 is a custom/hacked firmware....your best getting it upgraded to e newer custom firmware version. If you are going to do it yourself you will need a pandora battery & custom firmware on a memory stick...search for magic memory stick in google for help
