Default DM7020/DM600-Guide to making a full image backup in NFI format

I am successfully creating my own full images for the 7020 machines.

    It works...sensationally.

Here is how it's done, you can do it yourself no problems.

How to make a clone backup image of a DM7020 with all settings:-

    (1) ftp to the 7020

    (2) place the attached file "image7020_600.tar.gz" into tmp folder

    (3) go to the dreambox, and press blue button, addons, manual install via tv.

    (4) select the file you just uploaded.

    (5) go to the pc and command prompt.

    (6) telnet to the dreambox with telnet command

    (7) enter "root" as the user, no password

    (8) insert a usb stick in the back of the 7020 if it does NOT have a hard drive.

Now type this in on the pc's dos prompt telnet window...

(9)(a) if it HAS a hard drive :-

    /usr/bin/build-nfi-image.sh /media/hdd

(9)(b) if it DOES NOT have a hard drive:-

    /usr/bin/build-nfi-image.sh /media/usb

Now watch some progress messages for about 5 minutes and when it finishes, the *nfi image will be stored on either the hard drive on the dreambox, or the usb stick plugged into it.

The image will be about 15-20 mbytes.
    __________________________________________________ _________________

If you used the usb stick just wack it on the pc and copy it.

If you used the dm7020 hard drive then ftp back into the 7020 again and go to /media/hdd and copy the *nfi file from there to the desktop on your PC.

THAT'S IT.......you have a valid NFI image, just rename it to “something_sensible.nfi”

How do you copy the *nfi file that to many 7020's?

power off the 7020 and hold the down arrow button in on the front panel for a few seconds on power up.

it will display an IP address that the box is listening to...example 192.168.0.222

Set your pc ip address to the same subnet.

Then just point internet explorer to that IP address and away you go.
One of the options is firmware update, point to the file you just made and all starts to happen.

    Now isn't that useful?

*****you will need to unzip the linked file before ftp'ing to the 7020 tmp folder

*thanks to jonc for the critical info to make this work.

To 255.255.255.0 right (being the same subnet). But remember this will only work if you have DHCP setup on a DHCP server somewhere on your LAN to assign the IP & Subnet & gateway to the box you are updating. See note below on another way of doing it.

Then just point internet explorer to that IP address and away you go.

ADD: If you have dreamUP you can also use this to restore the image you have taken.

Having said this make sure your ethernet connection (either via cable or wifi) is active. This way it will take a few minutes to complete. BUT if you only have the serial cable plugged in, go make coffee for 30 plus minutes.

This way no DHCP server is required as dreamUP handles it for you.

Z80 you are welcome, anytime as this is how we do all out 7020 & 600's so they work here in Asia and the Pacific out of the box so to speak with all the goodies added in them.

@jonc- our latest batch of 7020's do NOT work with dreamup.

Otherwise I would not have bothered with creating NFi backups.

Also....no need for DHCP for us to do it, it works on a crossover cable.
Obviously we are getting different 7020's?

The normal way of installing both the 7020 & 600 with any image (enigma or otherwise) as you will note they are always .nfi files, is by dreamUP really.

    Must be bad clones

    DM7000, DM7020, DM7025 und DM7025+)

    Hmmm....

35 minutes using dreamup to flash a 7020, versus 3 minutes using web interface.

Let me think about that to see how long it will take me to do 20 units........

I think i know why they recommend the web interface mate.

    LOL

The dreamup program is completely unsatisfactory for use on a 7020.
    Lets leave it at that.

that's why we have this thread

OK, lets leave it at that, but we do all of them with dreamUP with serial & ethernet in about 3-4 minutes (not 30 to 40 minutes each) and by all, I mean we use both the Linux and Wintel versions of dreamUP kindly provided by DM to flash all models of boxes.

Yes there are many ways to image a dreambox, but this thread is not about restoring, it is about backing up.

No matter how many cables you connect to the 7020 at once it can NOT backup a box using Dreamup.

    Agreed?

    G'day z80 and jonc,
Thanx for the work involved in creating these scripts.

I ran it on my 7025 and I get:-

    -------snip------------
    root@dm7025:~# /usr/bin/build-nfi-image.sh /media/hdd
    dm7025 found

Can you tell from these errors what the problem is?
    Thanx again,

    There is your problem - a 7025 ...

But the script finds that it is a 7025 and carries on. If that was a problem I thought the script would have halted.
Is there any similar method for doing 7025's?

    Thanx

As per the downlink I provided it was always for the 7020 and 600 only, no mention whatsoever for the 7025, and if it started to worked, more power to you as there is no error checking in it for any box, why would there be? This is a tool for the 7020 and 600 only? Z80's topic is quite clear for the 7020.

As to the 7025 there must be but I do not own one of these so have not bothered to do it.

Try this file on this link - for PLi Iolite 2008 images (but will work for all, just read the ppanel details)
