Can you update a Modded 360 ?

Just did an update on my modded 360 and got the new dashboard however its saying theres another bigger update available..I begun downloading it but as it was taking ages I thought I'd google "update modded 360" on my pc and lo and behold a heap of people are claiming it can brick a modded unit..I quickly cancelled the download and await responses from any people here who have had success...I suppose with new games coming out which won't play without the latest update its inevitable I guess
forgot to add I'm only interested in doing the update to be able to play divx's off my external hard drive

certainly can update mate... I am current on mine.

I have noticed that there have been some big updates lately.

to get the divx update I think you try and play a divx movie. it should then point you to the download (but I havent done that in about a year or so so I could be wrong). depending upon your speed it may vary but for me it was a quick update

Ive never heard of a 360 being 'bricked' by an update.

so i got a xbox chipped and shadowed chipped also, i think thats what its called, the one that lets you go on the net?

anyway, i wanted to play last night and updated it and it now is stuck on "problem with update" screen every time i start the xbox, it wont go off that screen...HELP!?!?!?!?!

I got the same problem.. I was suppose to play warhammer and it ask me to update the console, which I did, but then i got an error and the update won't continue. And so every time I turn on my xbox, the update keeps showing up with an error. Were you able to find a solution? thanks

had one of these come in yesterday

customer had run the update found on the driver3 disc (dashboard 13599).

Drive was BENQ

it seems that the update failed once custom firmware was detected on the drive.

I restored it to stock and ran the update which gave a different error (please insert disc with update on it). I don't have the driver 3 disc on me and im having a bit of trouble hunting one down from a video store (hopefully find one tomorrow).


But for your problem, you need to restore the drive back to stock and run the update.

The update will also fail if you have a spoofed drive (brand of drive other than whats meant to be in your console).

The update from the disk firstly flashes the drive back to stock then attempts to update the dash.....if the disk is a backup, well then there is the prob. Reflash the drive to latest ixtreme f/w then let the disk run again to complete the update.

hey im new here & was surfing google for the latest update for xbox.what i want to know is that i gave my xbox to a shop to get it modded somewhere in november & i have no idea what firmware or dashboard version was installed,i had a benq drive.well that was a success,but now i want to update the dashboard.will it be safe to update it by the update given on microsoft's webpage & will it play all the games that i used to play before on my firstly modded dashboard?

First off what do you mean by modded, if your drive was flashed then its probably due for an update now so if you have the drive key (or the shop has it) you can just allow the update and then get your drive flashed again.
